Art Carr Tranmission

I have the opportunity to purchase an Art Carr tranmission and just wanted to see everyone's thoughts. The build is as follows.
700 R4 EXTREME AND COMPETITION TRANSMISSIONS RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING PARTS: Super Rebuild Kit with extra clutches where applicable featuring the Raybestos “Z” pak (17576), high output pump assembly (17708) which includes heat treated stator support shaft (17275), and the billet 10 or 13 vane rotor kit (17701 or 17703),
super input drum (17715), super sun gear shell (17710), new updated 4th and 2nd gear servos (17007 and 17003), deep aluminum pan (10700), if automatic Hi-Tech valve body kit is installed (17000), if full manual (17025 or 17026), if trans-brake (17030).

The link is located here http://www.artcarr.com/storm.cfm?funnelaction=10&ProductID=7049.

I know nothing about transmissions so I'm relying on the list's input. Maybe I can learn what to look for in a replacement tranmission so I can so some shopping on my own. I think the super sun gear shell is good and that is about it. My truck has a chip, and exhaust. I plan on a larger turbo (52ish) at least down the road and would like something that will work with that also. Let me know your thoughts.

Re: Art Carr Tranmission

for the $ I would spend the $ with one of the guys on this site. I feel they are better than what you might get from art. doesnt sound all that bad on the build sheet but it doesnt really say much. if you are determinded to buy then go for it and let us know what you think.

Re: Art Carr Tranmission

I also wouldnt get a full manual valve body and a reverse pattern wont work with the stock shifter.

For that amount of money id have to go with either Waller or Goerge Blake for my trans rebuild, both have great reps on theboard for building a trans that WILL hold up no doubt, and you know either one of them will be there for you in case something does happen.

But, you can also look into doing the 4L80E swap, it wont cost you much more than you will spend on the 700 and you are guarenteed a bulletproof transmission that will hold anything and everythihng the future holds.

Quote from s-seriesforum.

"700R4/4L60 with 3400 stall with lockup converter. Has extra capacity aluminum pan. Has performed flawlessly. Need room in the shop. $700 obo.
Full manual valve body with reverse pattern shifting. This is agreat transmission. I have changed to the 4l80 for the extra hp and mods done to the blazer.

Re: Art Carr Tranmission

Ok, well that trans is a very nice one for the money, i actually know the guy that is selling it and have seen his LT4 blazer in person, very nice and fast.

One problem your going to have if this trans is for your Ty and your Ty is still AWD is this is a RWD trans amd in order for it to work properly in the Ty the trans will have to be completley torn down and the output shaft swapped for a 4WD/AWD piece that is shorter than the 2WD piece. And this isnt a cheap process and again you have to make sure it it put back together the right way. Also again on the reverse pattern valve body this wont work with the stock SyTy shifter, and you will need a new shifter that will work with this arrangement. Plus a full manaul would be hard to drive om the street, always having to downshift at eaxh stop light, or if you wanted to kick in passing gear you would have to do it yourself, this trans has no automatice functions at all.

Just want to clear the air for you, yes its a great deal for a strong trans built by the man Art Carr himself, just nit the best choice for a SyTy.

Re: Art Carr Tranmission

That's funny because the gentleman that is selling it told me the same thing, but when I emailed Art Carr they told me it is a "direct replacement" for a 1993 Typhoon.
