ATR vs RPM downpipe ( wastegate / wideband ) ---

pppssssshhhhhtttttttttttt
I was under the impression that the ATR and RPM downpipes were exactly the same.

I finally found my ATR pipe, and noticed that the wastegate pipes are ran a little differently than the RPM pipes.

The ATR wastegate pipe enters the main pipe before the o2 sensor bung ... and on the RPM the wastegate pipe enters the main pipe after the 02 bung.

Which is the preferred setup to read more accurately on a wideband using the 02 sensor bung?

The ATR welds are horrendous looking LOL ... how are the RPM welds?

Thanks :) ---

I personally have had both.....I like the way rpm put the waste gate under instead of on top, but I also did the a/c delete so it really free'd up some xtra space.

The ATR pipe has better clearance all around , right?

I seen people have issues with the RPM pipe and ATR headers ... I didn't realize this could be an issue with the A/C too?

Is the ATR better for keeping the A/C? I'm going to keep mine ---

when the wastegate is open or in bypass mode xx% of the exhaust gassa are bypassing the O2 sensor, so you arent getting a true sample,

Re: ATR vs RPM downpipe ( wastegate / wideband ) ---

^^^ So you are saying the ATR setup is more true since everything is happening before the wideband sensor reading? That was my initial take on the situation, but all the combustion has already happened at that point ---

Every o2 sesor is after the combustion event, on the RPM DP you arent getting a 100% of the exhaust sample, it could by pass as much as 1/2 of the engines emissions

Re: ATR vs RPM downpipe ( wastegate / wideband ) ---

Ahhh that's true, Im not sure what was confusing me about that LOL , thanks :) . The more of the sample the better ... makes perfect sense.

I was debating selling the ATR and going with the RPM, but now that I see the ATR has better clearance, and a better wastegate design ... I will keep it.

The welds on the RPM pipe I heard are cleaner looking, but that's not a big deal , HA! ---

Yessir, and as long as they seal ... no complaints from me ---

I read the ATR makes the # 6 spark plug miserable to change.

Are you talking about dropping the stock exhaust manifold?

How about with ATR headers?

There is no A/C issues with the ATR downpipe, right? I will be using a 62mm turbo and 39mm wastegate ---

He is talking about dropping part of the downpipe. If everything is easily removable it wouldn't be too bad.

OK, I'll just have to keep an eye on everything seizing together ... which I hope wont happen too quickly. The truck isn't a DD . Thanks DG ---

Re: ATR vs RPM downpipe ( wastegate / wideband ) ---

I had ATR headers and downpipe when I still had the V6 and dont remember ever having to disconnect the downpipe to do plugs. It was a tight fit but not impossible.

The welds on the ATR were not great, I had to reweld mine in quite a few spots but a brace from the turbo to the cylinder head cured that issue.

I've had both the rpm is better hands down. I used stock manifolds with both. The gate on the bottom frees up lots of space. Besides the atr gate was a leaky POS. my only request be to make the down pipe slip joint a v band. I did have some leaks there I was always re clamping it tighter.

The O2 content would not change in the exhaust stream regardless of percent of flow. O2 sensor doesn't sample 100% of the flow any way. :dunno:

Yes, the only way to get any kind of wrench in there is to drop the exhaust
