Bad Prop shaft or Front Diff?

Getting a whine from the front driveline on 35k mi Typhoon. Sounds like a carrier bearing going bad in a RWD truck. It gets quiet when on the gas and noisy when letting off at 65-70.

Changed the fluid in the front diff and the Tranny fluid in the T-case. Think it got a little better, but I'm not sure.

Does have a little vibration at 70+ but it seems random. Sometimes it vibrates sometimes it doesn't. Gonna get the wheels & tires balanced soon and see if that's the problem.

Don't think it would be the stock prop shaft but wasn't sure. Could be another part of the driveline that is transferring noise to the front. Any suggestions?

That sounds kinda like you're loosing a pinion bearing. A bad pinion bearing will allow the pinion to move back and forth, depending upon whether you're applying power or not, causing it to move from the correct location (in proper mesh, not making noise) to a spot that makes a bunch of noise (not in correct mesh).

But that's just what it sounds like from here.

I am wondering if it is coming from somewhere else. It always gets so tricky with the darn driveline transmitting noise all over the vehicle. I was trying to help my buddy diagnose driveline noise in his 383 ci Z28. It was a loud whine under power but you couldn't tell if it was the tranny or the 10 Bolt. Still guessing it is the 10 bolt because he has broken 2 already.

I'd put the truck on jack stands and rotate the drive train and try to locate where the noise is coming from...... or you could cancel out the possibility of it being the propshaft by removing it and driving but I have to say when my stock ps started to go out it developed a ticking or creaking type noise. Not sure what kind of noises the front dif may cause

pull the propshaft and see if it goes away. that will tell you if it's the prop or front diff. sounds like a diff going bad to me.

I'll pull the propshaft in a little while. Going to Detroit for NAIAS this weekend and I'm taking three of those damn graduate engineering classes again this semester.

Oh, I gotta finish pulling the motor out of the 92' Ty so I can get if off the lift. Maybe it will be a couple of weeks till I get around to pulling the propshaft out of the 93'. I'll keep you guys posted.
