Blower Fan issue

I had a problem with my blower motor not working. It would work on low and medium setting then only on high or the mid seting and then shut off at any given time. I would hit the dash and it would turn on and then eventually turn back off by itself.. I went and replaced the blower motor and it was doing the same thing. I thought maybe the resistor was bad. It shows minor signs of corrosion and didnt seem to be in too bad of shape. I replacd it and its still doing the same thing. Is there a switch that could be bad or relay? when it works now, Every speed but i high works and then it will shut off on its own.. This makes me think the relay is okay? What am i missing?

Thanks for any input ahead of time!

Sounds like the speed selector switch in the dash.

Mine has a similar issue, where I have only the lowest and highest settings working. I also replaced the blower motor and relay, then the dealer cleaned the contacts for the fan selector, and it worked fine for a year.

Re: Blower Fan issue

I'm thinking that it has to be the speed selector switch as well. I'm not sure where i would get one so i might just have to tear it apart and clean those contacts. Or I'll call a local dealer and see if they can get one?

Thanks!

Re: Blower Fan issue

If you need one, I think I have a couple out in the garage if cleaning doesn't work. LMK

Re: Blower Fan issue

Junkyard or LMC Truck will have the switch. Of the HVAC controls it's the easier one of the two to change.

Re: Blower Fan issue

It's almost certainly the speed selector switch in the dash. You can buy it a AutoZone. Don't let this go too long. Sometimes that switch starts arcing, gets hot and starts melting things, like the connector on the wiring harness. Pretty alarming when it starts to smoke...Then you have to go cut a connector off a junkyard truck and patch it in.
