Boost solenoid wiring?

So now that it's clear that the boost control solenoid is entirely missing from my Typhoon, I am trying to figure out whether the solenoid wiring is still around, or if it's missing too. But I can't find any reference to the boost solenoid wiring in the service manual supplement.

So I guess I am wondering two things:
1. What color are the factory wires that go to the boost solenoid? (I see and orange and black pigtail that is just hanging, behind the A/C compressor - is this it?)
2. Where do the wires go from the boost solenoid? Presumably to a relay somewhere?

Thanks!

Re: Boost solenoid wiring?

The factory colors are black and orange. I will see if I have any wiring diagrams at home with this info scanned and post up more information if someone else hasn't already.

Edit: The factory colors according to the 1992 Service Supplement is Blk/Grn and Orn. The orange goes to a relay and the black/green goes to F2 pin on the ECM under the dash. If you go to page 4 in the wiring diagrams you will find the "Waste Gate Solenoid" at the top center of the page. If you need further information, shoot me a PM and I can get it over to you.

Re: Boost solenoid wiring?

There are some diagrams in the back of the service manual. I will check also after 5.
Is it overboosting? Or have a wastegate upgrade? If it has a different wastegate the factory wiring is not needed.

Re: Boost solenoid wiring?

The documentation I have says it has a "stage 1 upgraded 57mm turbo with clipped turbine wheel for higher exhaust flow and lower backpressure, new bearing, and a ported wastegate." It looks like the system should be rated for 25 psi of boost, but it won't go above 8 even WOT. I figured it was because there is just a straight vacuum hose (with no boost controller at all) running from the turbo directly down to the wastegate.

Should I be adjusting my wastegate instead

Re: Boost solenoid wiring?

The stock boost solinoid will have a really hard time hitting your "25psi" mark. If you have the vac line from the compressor to the gate an your only getting 8psi, that is your gates spring pressure. You need a manual or electronic i.e greddy, aem ect. To control higher boost numbers

Re: Boost solenoid wiring?

Thanks for the help, guys.

I would guess the wastegate is stock, and has just been port-matched.

I know this is an old post but...

So, the waste gate solenoid is powered from the relay thru the Orange wire then it is grounded by ECM thru the black wire? One other thing, is it normally open or closed?
I am trying something different with it in my truck and was wondering if I got this straight.
TIA
