Getting ready to put the motor for my Ty together and need to figure out what I want to do for a camshaft. I don't want to mess with a ton of tuning, but obviously the point of the game to make as much power as possible. I am using a 2001 block, minus the balance shaft, L35 heads, eagle rods and probe pistons. Also what tuners are available on the cheap to help with the tuning. Don't want to put a ton of time into the tuning as I am selling the Ty when I get it running and getting a lightning. Thanks for the help guys

If you don't really want to mess with tuning, put on the stock heads and cam (you will need a non balance shaft block). Any of the stock balance shaft cams are much more agressive than the stock cam. Adding cam and L35 heads will require a custom tune. If you want to make it impressive to sell, just get it running properly by using a scan tool to help diagnose what the issue are and then add a 3 bar chip like the ultimate chip or turbo tweaks. These truck can be impressive to drive when they are just running properly because of all the torque our engines make, BUT they have to BE running properly. I would rather have a good running stock motor than untuned modified motor that you got just good enough to sell, the stock motor might even be faster without putting a lot of tuning effort in to the modified motor.
A MAP based ecm (which is what we have) is not a friendly to changing air flow characteristics of a motor, so changing the heads, cams, or compression ration from stock changes the tune completely.

i understand the need to get it running CORRECTLY. i also know how impressive these cars are in their properly tuned factory form. i have built quiet a few cars and worked in shops where we did custom tuning. having said that the majority of those where fords, a couple bowties. not admitting to being genious by any means, but i am very confident i can make my way through it. that is why i was asking what was available for tuning these cars. i dont have an issue spending the time to tune it and make it run right. i do not wish to get it running "just good enough to sell". i want the car to run right, a car that dies everytime you put it in gear or come to a stop or blows black because the afr is way out of wack is not the goal in the least. i am just trying to find what combinations other people have used and what combinations might make tuning little easier.
