Cladding Repair Technique

Wondering if anyone has tried this technique and product on cladding/bumpers.

I like to watch Wheeler Dealers and Ed the mechanic had a technique to repair a fiberglass bumper which I found interesting. Skip to 4:45 where that begins.

A few threads figured he was using the Bondo Pumper Product product from 3M

Well after having a piece fly off and crack I think I'll try it. I'm ordering the stuff now.

I just about yanked the bumper off over the weekend to try this out but got busy....curious what you come up with!

I think I have a tube of an epoxy just like this at my house as well as the mesh for the back. Once I get fully moved in, I'll start messing around with it. Hopefully it works.

This is the same technique we use on bumpers minus the mesh and it holds up very well even in the winter here so the mesh is only going to help. The product we use is 3m 4240 but the gun is a little pricey. We just put masking tape over the back of the v'd out crack and fill. Drilling the holes at the end of each cracks is something i thought was one of our secrets but I guess not. Also try to rub some laquer thinner on the crack a little while before you apply the epoxy it softens the plastic up and seems to take the epoxy a little better. This technique also works great for putting the fender tabs back on.

It's good to know there has been success with variations on this method. I hope Amazon gets the stuff here by the weekend. I'd like to tackle then!
