Mike:

This is all fascinating, but it's messing up my survey. Would you take a moment to put this glass-marking stuff in a new thread in tech articles, or something, and clean this one up as the survey I originally intended?

Thanks.

Those that think they know the story tend to annoy those of us that do
...I agree

The text you quote was originally posted in the Custom Restore Auction thread. That thread was full of speculation and guesses. In this thread you're implying that you know more about RPO codes than I do. I believe this to be highly unlikely. Therefore your comment doesn't make sense.

The auction was scheduled for August 6-7. Note the date on the pic below. And the location. Now you decide if I was in a position to "know the story" in that thread or not? Enjoy the pic.

This is odd. Do all typhoons have clear rear glass? Maybe we should be looking for "GREY" instead. There's another thread regarding RPO for tinted glass. AA3 or AJ1. Maybe that is more relevant.

The arrow and the small line directly underneath it (on the windshield) is also used to determine the lowest line where tint can be applied. Law enforcement can use this marking when "making decisions"

im noticing alot of the responders with clear glass are non US trucks? are there RPO codes for export? Although that doesnt explain the glass in daves or syguys trucks, are either of you original owners Im gonna have to dig and see if european law allows tinted rear glass,

Well, here's mine. '93 Ty, 1108, built 01-02-93. From the looks of it, the marks on the widow suggest mine's been replaced after the truck was built?

OK. I just got off the phone with a local guy that is very SyTy savey, but doesn't post very often. He has 4 Ty back glass. 3 are clear, one is Grey, but has a 94 date, so it can't be origional.

He also confirmed in his source books that AA3 is the 'correct' glass code for Typhoon. The definition for AA3 is "deep tint glass, side windows only".There are TWELVE Typhoon rear glass represented in this thread. They have ALL been 'clear'. Here's my conclusion:

Typhoons are supposed to have clear rear glass
. Because so many have received aftermarket tint, and that there IS a factory 'grey' glass, it seemed that clear was the exception, rather than the normal.

'Clear' (Solar Ray), M508 PPG glass is the normal. At least you all learned how to crack PPG glass date codes.

Thanks for participating.

Re: "Clear" Rear Window Glass? Survey:

whats m37.6 mean?

See Mike's Post #17 above. Here's an excerpt:

The M number is a model number for the piece of glass, which identifies the type of construction. The M number is unique to the manufacturer, so one an M number of M312 by one manufacturer could be different than glass labeled as M312 by another manufacturer. It identifies the glass construction, including the color and thickness. An M number may be used by multiple part numbers.

I stopped a older gentleman with a white on gray who had no tint on ANY of the windows. he said it came that way when he bought it new. From the dealer. I thought he was losing it. lol. i guess he wasn't. I don't remember the year, but i don't remember seeing a roof rack either.
