code 45 o2 sensor bad??

have a code 45 o2 sensor rich condition....

does this mean i have a bad 02 sensor or something else...????

replaced the coolant temp sensor just recently for the same condition and it fixed it ....did it go bad in 3000 miles....brand new motor....

need so suggestions before i get a new o2 sensor...ps the o2 has only about 7500 miles on it....

I got the same code and condition after running TEC through my Ty. I thought I was gonna have to replace my IAC cause of it throwing that codes 33 and 35 also. Not cheap for sure, so what I did (being the tight a$$ I am)was got me a new gasket kit for the TB and a can of TB cleaner. Took it off and completely apart cleaned it good put it back on and never had a code thrown since. Cost me about 20.00 bucks when IAC module is 60+ by itself, maybe this will work. I have no idea how old my O2 sensor is so I will wait till the CE light comes on again. Good Luck.

I'd check the vacumn hoses going to the FPR as well. The plastic hose that went to my FPR cracked last week and tripped the bad o2 code. With the cracked line, during normal driving, it ran REALLY RICH. All new silicon hoses are the first thing to be done in the spring. :)

If it really is running very rich, then the code is probably because it's running rich, not because of a bad O2. If the symptoms agree with what the ECM says is wrong, then why would you even suspect the sensor is bad? Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but the ECM is seeing what you say is really happening. Now if you hooked up a wideband O2 and it said you were running lean or good, and you were getting the "rich" error code, that would hint that your O2 is messed up...

Have you checked fuel pressure? That should be the first thing to check if you're suddenly running really rich or lean. Like they said, it could be a problem with the vac source to the FPR, so it's not properly adjusting the regulator. Check the base FP with the engine off, and check it again while the truck is running and see if changes.

Smell your oil.If it smells like gas the diaphram inside the FPR is cracked.That's what caused my code 45.

CODE 45 - OXYGEN (O2) SENSOR CIRCUIT (RICH EXHAUST INDICATED)

Code 45 is set when the O2 sensor voltage: Remains above .75 volt for 50 seconds; and the system is in "Closed Loop."

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
Using the "Scan," observe the block learn values at different rpm and air flow conditions. The "Scan" also displays the block cells, so the block learn values can be checked in each of the cells to determine when the Code 45 may have been set. If the conditions for Code 45 exists, the block learn values will be around 115.

(ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING WILL CAUSE A CODE 45)

1. Fuel Pressure. System will go rich if pressure is too high. The ECM can compensate for some increase. However, if it gets too high, a Code 45 may be set. See Fuel System diagnosis CHART A-7.

2. Rich Injector. Perform injector balance test CHART C-2A.

3. Leaking Injector. See CHART A-7.

4. Check for fuel contaminated oil.

5. HEI Shielding. An open ignition ground CKT 453 may result in EMI, or induced electrical "noise." The ECM looks at this "noise" as reference pulses. The additional pulses result in a higher than actual engine speed signal. The ECM then delivers too much fuel, causing system to go rich. Engine tachometer will also show higher than actual engine speed, which can help in diagnosing this problem.

6. Canister purge. Check canister for fuel saturation. If full of fuel, check canister control and hoses. See "Purge Valve Operation" Section "C3."

7. MAP Sensor. An output that causes the ECM to sense a higher than normal manifold pressure can cause the system to go rich. Disconnecting the MAP sensor will allow the ECM to set a fixed value for the sensor. Substitute a different MAP sensor if the rich condition is gone while the sensor is disconnected.

8. Check for leaking fuel pressure regulator diaphragm by checking vacuum line to regulator for fuel.

9. TPS. An intermittent TPS output will cause the system to go rich, due to a false indication of the engine accelerating.

10 EGR. An EGR staying open (especially at idle) will cause the O2 sensor to indicate a rich exhaust, and this could result in a Code 45

Oh yeah I forgot about replacing vac hoses and throwing away all of those crappy elbows in my post. The elbow at my map sensor was cracked. Do one thing at a time then you can rule out all possible problems.
