Corvette C5, 2 SRT-4's and a GTI, kinda long.

I got my wastegate actuator adjusted a bit and my truck was running pretty well yesterday. Last night I went out to dinner with a few friends. I was rainy out, we decided to go cruise around in the Ty, these guys had never been in it before. Drove around and pretty much found nothing besides 2 gnarly wrecks from people who were screwing around in the rain. We're about to head back and I cruise through a local sorta high end little strip, Santana Row for those of you familiar with the area. We make our way through and find a guy in a pretty clean C5. It sounds good, don't know if he only had exhaust or what. I pull up next to him and spool a little. He looks over, revs it up, and just spins his tires. He though he was baaaddd. This got me all excited, I thought he wanted to play. So I get behind him and start to follow him, trying to catch a light somewhere. He was driving pretty fast, kinda seemed chicken. I followed him for a couple miles and it became obvious; he was pretty much running away from me, making all kinds of turns and manuvers to get away from me, then whipping into a parking lot to try to loose me. Pssh, I had no time for games, I just gave him a little spool and went on my way. Later on last night, I was comin' home from a friends house. It was still rainy out and I was expecting to see anything fast looking to play, I'm just unlucky like that. I was just getting off the freeway to go home and a few cars up ahead caught my attention. I got on it a caught up to them. It was sprikling by them, nice and wet out. There were several cars cruisin around, two of which were semi-modded SRT-4's and one was a pretty quick GTI as it seemed. I was the luckiest man alive. Right when I caught up to them, we caught a light. Everything was laid out perfectly, 4-wide, me, and these 3 guys. I was so happy. I just jump the truck forward a little while we're waiting at the light to get their attention. It turns green and I just start out by rolling into the intersection. They all hit it, and so do I. I walked those mothers like I could not believe. It was so funny watching those guys shift through their gears, with their little bov's squeaking every time they shifted or let off to try to get traction, haha. I just pretty much drove away from them all. We caught several lights the whole way up and I just schooled them. That just made my night. They kept telling me they weren't getting traction and were asking if my truck were awd. I just told them I picked up this truck because I liked the body kit, I didn't really know anything about it. Haha. I pulled over when they did and it turns out one of the guys went to high school with me. I introduced myself to them, told them my truck wasn't tuned in yet, I was still yet to start spraying alky and running more boost. This night only peaked at 14psi. I told them next time we meet, it'll have to be in the dry. We'll hope and see.

sounds like fun! Damn I wish my truck was running better. I loved schooling people like that. None of them see it comming. I actually got laughed at when I asked a WRX to race one night. He asked what I had, I pointed to they Ty and said " Are you serious?" I said sure am and would put 40 bux on it too. He kinda gave me that :eh: look and asked if it was supercharged. Nope, try again. I said it was a Typhoon and he said HELL NO! First he didn't want to waste the gas smokin a SUV, and no more than 30 seconds later he didn't want to get owned by that same SUV for 40 bux! :rotf: Made my night.

I love to see any and all posts in this section. Nice kills. It's funny to me that no matter who it is or what they drive they always have a reason why they lost. It's weather, traction, outta tune, bald tires, etc. I used to street race a lot in my yellow '79 Z-28. I could not go anywhere w/o stirin up trouble. This was late 80's early 90's and the fast stuff on the street were the Mustang 5.0's. So I got plates that read U LOOZ GT. I lost only two races and both times I was able to say "nice race, that thing is pretty fast". I gave respect when it was due and I did not gloat when I won. I miss the attention that car got. I think mostly because the Ty is more or less invisible to all but a few savvy car/truck enthusists (sp?). Oh well. I know what it is and I waited a LONG time to get one of my very own. Keep these stories coming. I love 'em.

Nice Steven!
Most of the folks at Santana Row are punks and just cruise back and forth.
But then again, I lived there so what can I say.

Wish we could go cruisin, now that you got the truck up and running. Would like to run the subie against it....

AZ is cool, BTW

Hi Jack,
I know, I cruise through lookin' for those punks all too often. Not a chance were you one of them, way cooler  I don't know when the next time you'll be in this area will be, but give me a holler for sure, chances are I'll be here. Wish the best to you and your family, and the new life in AZ. How cool is it? Probably a bit less chaotic that back here, I'd hope.

Hey Jack, glad you found a garage for your pristine Ty ;) Should stay rust-free down there. Where did you end up moving? I usually come down to Phoenix around the holidays to visit family. Will ping you next time I'm down there.

Nice kills, yeah I can vouch that the SRT-4 gets NO traction in the rain, let alone on dry pavement when you get the rpms up too high on the launch. With my SRT-4 I either bog it or spin the shit out of the tires, I think I have only had a couple good launches with it, and that was with a staged burnout beforehand.

Keep an eye out for those little skittles though, one or two might surprise you, I know a couple guys with Stage 3 and better SRT-4's here in Central Florida running well into the mid 11's on slicks and very low 12's on street tires. I still prefer my Syclone and just destroying everyone off the launch, but the SRT-4 is still a fun daily driver.

Yep, those things are pretty cool all around cars, I wouldn't mind one for a DD. I actually just ran against a stage 2 the other night, pulled on that thing as well. I don't think I'd be able to stay with a Stage 3 though, hear those things are pretty fast. Still gotta get my truck tuned in, run some higher boost and get it to be happy with alky, then I'll be up for some playtime.
