Crate motor!!!

I drove my Ty today and now I have a rod knocking!! We just finished many repairs only to have a rod to start knocking but thats a hot rod for you. I was wondering where could I get a replacement engine for a Ty? Any help you guys could provide would be awesome, thanks in advance. I would like a stock replacement or maybe a step up with a little performance. This would be more of a daily driver than a track ride. Once again Thanks!

do NOT get a Jasper replacement engine, if you do you're just gonna be replacing it soon again.

Re: Crate motor!!!

It is just knocking for now, so it will stay in the garage untill I return from over seas in a year on a contract job. A friend of mine that is a professional mechanic and drag nut confirmed that it was a rod knocking. Thanks for the input and a forged motor is looking real good.

Bummer. You just got it and now you're away for a year? Sounds like my life! Good luck. Where overseas?

Afghanistan, turning wrenches to feed my addictions. I talked with RPM about thier street performance package with the Vortec head conversion and that sounds like a winner to me. Just waiting till I return to place my order.

Re: Crate motor!!!

Why not just pull your motor out and have it rebuilt? If the rod just started knocking chances are the crank could be cut and saved, the block is good, as are the heads and cam. Save youreself some money and throw a good set of rods and pistons in it along with a full overhaul and be done with it...

Re: Crate motor!!!

Yep! plan on rebuilding that one in the future, always nice to have a spare motor laying around. I had a little cash after selling my pick up and wanted a strong foundation for this build. Thanks to all those who chimmed in, I try to read this site as much as I can but there is a waiting line in Afghanistan.
