Creaking and groaning from the front end.

Lately my typhoon has been making alot of noise as you come to stop, slowing down not stopping and then continuing and with the foot on the brake pedal shifting the truck into drive or reverse. All the noise is in the front of the truck. Last night I used lithium grease on the upper and lower a arm bushings, sway bar bushing and the rubber mounts for the front diff. but the sound is still there and the colder it gets outside the worse the noise. It's pretty embrassing, sounds like an old junker. Anyone have any ideas on what might be making this noise. Trans mount? etc...

my sy was doing the same thing, i greased all joints and mounts, changed out motor and tranny mounts, i found a broken torsion mounts, when i back up and stop it grinds, when i drive it clunks really loud....check out youre torsion mount im about to replace them....

Mike mine does the exact same thing every Fall when it gets cold, and it's just as you described. Please keep us posted with your results. Mine also sounds like a rusty creeky old house door and its embarassing like an "old junker" sound especially going over speed bumps in the local custard stand parking lot.

I also had the same noises you discribed mike, My problem turned out to be a fudged up passenger side torsion bar mount.

Just a suggestion…

Are you absolutely sure the squeaking/creaking is coming from the front of the truck? The reason I ask is my Syclone is prone to the same sound as you’re describing when the rear leafs get dry. You’d swear it was coming from the front when driving the truck. I didn’t locate it until I stood outside and had my wife drive slowly around a bumpy parking lot. A couple times a year now I soak the leafs with a 30/70 mix of diesel fuel/oil and haven’t had a problem since.

I have the same problem. Any luck on this Mike? I was told it was my pitman and Idler arms going bad, I also have a bad torsion mount, everything is being replaced this winter.

I used silicon grease spray on every body mount and bushing I could find but... it's been very warm lately so i'm not sure I fixed the problem yet. My truck has low miles so I don't think that your problems are mine and it happens only when it's cold outside. I'll keep you updated.

I was geting a creak from the front when it was cold out. I think I solved the problem, it was coming from my rocker cladding piece where it hit the fender (The front arches needed to be remove to access it.

I found out that when I first get into the truck it does not make any noise but after a little driving it starts. It seems the noise is made when braking and mostly when leaving off the brake. I think it's the brakes.(front and/or rear) The suspenision does not make any noise when going over bumps and such. Not sure how or why as I have relubed the caliber bolts and such. But I did go to a "heavy duty" brake pad (front) after I bought the truck. I'll continue to investigate as my truck sounds like an old POS.

I had this happen also. gives yu a noise one time when you first move forward or back. next time i had them out and put em back in no noise....
go figure.

My idler arm made some nice squeaky sounds for a long time, until I got my lazy arse to change it.

Fixed that noise.

Nick - All ya gotta do to check them is the side-to-side shake test to see how much play they have. The stockers suck from the factory.

To update. I am still having this creaking noise. Funny thing is that when we had that snow and the streets were wet, no noise. I am pretty sure it's from the front brakes. The 'creaking' noise, kind of like the noise you hear when a car door isn't lubed up right, from the front of the car, when i'm braking. I can't pinpoint exactly where in the front, if its from the caliper or the master cylinder area because obviously i'm sitting in the car when it happens.

It makes this noise when i'm stepping on the pedal lightly at the beginning of the pedal travel and then stops when i get a bit more into the pedal travel. Also, once the car is stopped, if i press the pedal a bit down more, it'll creak a little bit again sometimes. It's because of that creaking when it's stopped and also the fact I bounced the front end of the car and couldn't duplicate this noise, that I ruled out suspension pieces.

Also, it only makes this noise when the car is moving forward. It does NOT do it in reverse which i find kind of weird.

I'm thinking I'll relube everything involving the front brakes when the weather brakes.

It's a fairly common thing to squeal when U 1st apply brakes. Alot of cars have antisqueal pads added to address this. I don't remember that there are any of these on the SyTy's ?

i dont think its your brakes but something else that the water lubricates.
the movement of the truck just shows the symptom.
Somethingisjust to dry, body mount, suspension bushing etc. but not the brakes. I had this on my front end once, just s[rayed everything and poof it was gone.
