crossover rubbing on frame

Hi, like the title says... the exhaust crossover to manifold/turbo flange is rubbing onto the frame rail next to the idler arm..? is there any way I can solve this problem or is it a sign of a broken motor mount? any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Try loosening the nuts holding the crossover and the clamp in the middle. Make sure the 2 halves move and spin easily. Now readjust the crossover to gain clearance. Tighten the clamp last. Good luck.

If it's not motor mounts there is a slim chance the x-over might be in backwards. If this just started I'd vote for mounts.

I recomend the solids, that is what I put in my truck. Then there is almost no movement and that means more power and torque to the wheels. You will get a little more vibration out of it, but not alot.

I'd vote for solids as well. (Do not change the trans to solid.) I got mine from Turbo Time but I don't see them listed there now. RPM has the complete kit. The pic shows the frame mounts with slots which you will need. I have a write up somewhere. I'll find it and post the link. The install is not as bad as some make it out to be. Now that I've done I'd do it again in a flash.

There are many other posts on this topic. The issue is getting to the the nuts on the frame pads. Naturally I think my method is the best.:rotf:

Thanks alot man, if I go solid..does it matter if I already have a poly trans mount? and if I plan on doing 500whp with solid mounts..will I need to reinforce the frame in any way since the frame would want to twist?

On the trans, everything I've seen says keep some sort of flex back there. Think about it, as things move and twist you need some flex somewhere. I've even heard of solids only on the drivers side which I disagree with. AFA 500 hp goes, 500hp at 5500 RPM (guessing here) = about 480 lbs torque. 1/2 of that per side, you'll be fine.

Re: crossover rubbing on frame

Uh, no. Because a tie-down pulls down and you're already down to far aren't you? For an engine that is lifting they seem to work for some. I did not have good luck with the one I tried. My personal feeling is once the mounts go you're asking for trouble. Some folks have had the motor lift to the point where the alternator fan cut the upper rad hose. Not good. BTW Are you positive it's the mounts?

It's seems to be only down on the passenger side.. I would do the engine tie down to keep it from twisting under load. No I'm not 100% positive its the mounts but sure enough.

Re: crossover rubbing on frame

When engine is making torque pas side has pressure and drivers side has tension. If it's down that far there may be somethin' else wrong. Might be worth looking into a little further.
