Datamaster

Stab it and steer it
Finally got around to buying a TDC tool and checking the dampener. Lucky me it’s OK. On to the dist and the damn bolt is loose. I’m amazed the darn thing ran, jump a tooth, or loose oil pressure it was that loose. I can’t imagine I did it when I installed the cap a year ago so must have done it when I re-routed the IC hoses recently? I did run them on the driver’s side over the top of the dist. But still I didn’t actually -do- anything to the dist. just glad I caught it I guess.

Timing was retarded a bit. Made a test run after reset but have (what I think is) lots of retard on crudy Cal 91 gas.

This is back roads Datamaster run, comments please:

Will be at Infineon this Wed and will get some 100 no lead. I'll see what happens then.

Re: Datamaster

Well, your KR went way up from your last DM file. I would double-check the timing again, the 0 BTDC groove on the timing pointer can be hard to see. I'd put some 100 octane in and do a few more runs to see if the KR goes away. Could just be crap fuel.

Re: Datamaster

I think I have a dist with a mind of it’s own. After double-checking when I reset the timing after the discovery of the loose bolt, and satisfied that it’s right on “0” I now go back and it’s advanced a couple. Got a hammer? :squint:

I’ll reset it and, like I said, push some 100 through it on Wed (at Infineon) and see what it (the KR) decides to do then.

Re: Datamaster

Or upgrade to a MSD Pro Billet 8367 distributor and be done with it. I wanted to eliminate the dist. as a possible source of sloppy timing etc. so the MSD was the logical upgrade. Let us know how she runs on the 100 octane. Wish I lived as close to Infineon as you!
