Re: Distributors question

Put a new stocker back in it. There's no reason to use an MSD, I found no difference in them.

Well that's one way to piss off one of our very few vendors who dedicates himself to Sy's and Ty's... probably better off keeping that to yourself. We don't need to loose anymore vendors, but I guess no matter who they are they can't please everyone...

Re: Distributors question

If they're U.S. Spec, 4.3 L V6, then yes. I also looked up the price for the distributor housing, and shaft, yesterday on GMpartsdirect. Most of the other small, service parts should be obtainable locally, or re-usable. (like the gear).

The shaft is $80.74, and the housing $69.27. Even with a coil and module $80.00 it's less than 230.00 for OEM trouble-free quality. I see too many peeps have trouble with MSD. I wouldn't trust MSD considering the hassles to obtain parts in Kuwait. Not worth the trouble to import inferior quality. Buy OEM, and save money too.

If you want all the GM P/N's to build a stock distributor, I'll look them up, if you ask.

so dave you recomended to stick with the OEm dist ??

Re: Distributors question

My personal opinion is that the OEM is more reliable. And it costs a little less too. The 'bad' is that you can not buy a complete distributor from GM. You have to buy the pieces and put it togeather. I've done it. Takes about an hour to do it.

am thinking but could you please give the parts # and the site that i could order the parts from??
will be appreciated to you dave

Re: Distributors question

I got a rebuild Dist from Kragen for $107 with a ignition module and a lifetime no questions asked warranty on the whole piece. No cap and rotor though.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and choice of vendors, but atleast post your name poonfag, instead of hiding behind a computer screen. Let me guess your one of those guys who called up with 10 minutes of tech questions then asked for an oem part number or bar code on each part we discussed so you can shop it cheaper somewhere else.

Atleast Morgan has a reason for disliking me. I decided not to build him a custom downpipe which made him miss the Nats 7+ years ago.

Please post your bad experience in our forum and i'll see what i can do in the future to correct it.

Re: Distributors question

OK. Here's a list of the parts w/ GM P/N's to build or service a 4.3 Distributor. Usually, I re-do an existing distributor with a new shaft, housing, and pick-up coil, and reuse the rest of the stuff from the old distributor.. Looks like some of them can be sourced from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com from a quick search. Good Luck.

Code:
(1) 10495798 Shaft and magnet
(1) 10488259 Retainer
(1) 10496783 Shield
(1) 10495089 Pick up coil
(1) 10495802 Pole piece
(2) 10469668 Module mtg screw
(1) 10482827 Module
(1) 10472052 Dist housing w/ bushings
(1) 00454666 Pin, pick-up coil mtg
(1) 01965864 Washer, thrust (above gear)
(1) 01977937 Washer, spacer (above gear)
(1) 10469459 Gear, dist drive
