Do I have to get tuned or chip to delete egr?

If you dont mind the check engine light, I have mine off and the light only comes on once in a blue moon

You need to have a chip with the EGR disabled. If fact if you disabled the EGR in the chip you don't need to remove the hardware, the EGR delete plates provide no gain over a disabled EGR valve.

True but egr looks ugly and the cover plates are cheap
