ever use a GN ECU

So I was over a friend of mines house, droping of some plates i made for his trailer, and he has a 76 Vega with a GN 3.8 in it. I was BSin with him about my Sy and his GN mutt and got on the subject of computers and odd/even firing and how the GN is oddfire and the problems we would have with switching to odd fire and going to run an aftermarket ECU to make it work and he asked the very simple question;

"Why the hell don't you just run a GN ECU?"

Kinda stumped me, I mean we did some research, there both oddfire V6's with the same firing order and assuming the same split between the crank pins. Has anyone tried this or know any reason why it wouldn't work? just thought i'd throw it out there and see if I could stir anything up

To do an odd fire Im sure you already know you need a crank, but by the time you get to re-wiring the ECM to fit why even bother? The crank is the most important part. To do oddfire Im pretty sure you dont need and after market ECM.

First I don't think a GN is oddfire. 2nd the ECU itself is a step back in terms of technology.

:lol: No seriously, Im pretty sure you dont. Why would you? First off, the SYTY's are batch fire fuel injection, i.e. not sequential injection order. Second, for spark, or dist is concerned, you reroute your wires to the correct firing order of the crank. No need for a difdferent ECM. Im pretty sure.

GN engines are a even fire 6cyl......... Distributerless and Sequential injected. but are limited in processer speed compaired to Sy/Tys.

To odd fire a 4.3L you'd need a comon pin crank (like a small block) most are 2.100 pin.
The stock cranks are a spit pin with 2.25dia.(or close to that) You'd be better to get a billet crank and have less trouble getting the correct fueling and firing for the engine.
I think if Robert's running a billet even fire running 8's you'd be ok with one too.
Motec makes a program to run odd fire and DIS but it ain't cheap or easy to work with.
I've researched all this crap with my old odd fire project.
If your running a carb'd setup with a odd fire you'd be fine. Dave Henninger did that with a odd fire crank and sprayed over 500hp to it with his 73 Camaro in Real Street going low 9's. He had trouble keeping head gaskets in it but that was it.
