Finally...

Well, I'm not a new member, been here awhile...FINALLY found a Ty  I sent the deposit for it via paypal earlier and I hope to be going to pick it up later this month!!!

The turbo on it is supposed to be bad, but it comes with a PTE 52 kit which just needs installing. Other than that, the thing is stock. I intend on getting it, cleaning it up, getting the new turbo on, giving it a tune up and enjoying it....As far as putting the new turbo on, do I need to do any tuning? Does anyone offer chips or anything for it? Sorry, I'm new to the Sy/Ty game, closest thing I've had experience with is my 87 GN...

Not to rain on your parade, but my guess is blowby instead of a "bad turbo".

Please do this before you complete the purchase of the Ty:

Start the engine. Open the hood. Unscrew the cap from the oil-filler neck. (Behind the alternator) Look for white smoke or vapors coming out of the oil filler. If there is a lot of smoke, the rings/valve guides are worn and the smoke you see is blow-by. If there is no smoke, hold your hand above the filler neck. If there is a lot of air coming out, it's a sign of blow-by. Neither condition is good - It means you'll be going through the engine shortly.

Gotta do a compression test for sure.If the engine is toast you are looking at 5-6k to fix it minimum. And then there is that damn 700R4. 3k or so should make it last awhile.

IMO This should be done with any SyTy before any money changes hands.

Re: Finally...

I printed out the buyers form. Thats not the acutal name but the guys on this forum told me about it and i went step by step from what it said to check and i was very happy i did. Even though i bought the truck from a member on this forum i still did the entire check and i cant be more happier. 2 yrs and three thousand miles later the truck still runs great.

THis isnt the one i used but it looks more up to date then what i had.

Re: Finally...

Saw this truck the day he put it into storage actually. Looked a little rough, but a good project truck, nothing a little TLC wont fix. It was a while ago when I looked at it last, so I cant really tell you any specific details. I do remember it needing a turbo.
