Fuel Filter AN fitting option

Ok, so I've been working at finding an option for those of us running -8 AN hoses for the pressure line. Most fittings that are 16mm x 1.5 o-ring are only available in -6. I know RPM has them, but at $20 a piece. I came to find another option, which is classified as a JIC fitting, still the 37 degree flare, and only $8 a piece.

Just another option for those out there looking for fuel fittings.

Granted, they aren't some pretty blue anodized, but will do the job at a fr action of the price.

The two are interchangeable in theory, though this is typically not recommended due to the exacting specifications and demands of the aerospace industry. The differences between them relate to thread class and shape (how tight a fit the threads are), and the metals used.

AN also has a 37 degree flare. You can read up on it here. The only difference between JIC and AN is that the tolerances on JIC aren't held as tight hence the lower cost...

difference also possibility of leakage as it says in that link as well.

Curious, will this fitting work with our stock oil coolers, located on the radiator - for people running a braided -8 AN line?

Pete: I'm aware of the JIC vs. AN difference but I'm not sure if others do. JIC is used extensively in the automotive industry and often mislabeled by some as a true AN fitting. The army-navy is sinply a tighter spec as is any military spec product. JIC is also often used in power steering which is subject to a lot higher pressures than a fuel line. I've used them before without issues. The purpose is too give people some options. Hell people will mill something out with a 37 degree flare that aren't even close to ANn spec and call it AN simply for marketing power as many people know it by that designation and not that it has a 37 degree flare. What is really bad is when they use an SAE 45 fitting with an AN hose end and wonder why nothing seals

Actually you stated that AN is a 45 flare which it is not. 45 flares are SAE fittings that you get at Ace Hardware that are commonly used in high pressure gas applications. JIC and AN are interchangable and seal fine. SAE 45 will NOT work with JIC nor will it work with AN

The demands of the space industry are far less than that of my fuel system. ;)

Something else to consider, the sealing surface is not the threads, but rather the 37* angled surface. The threads perhaps may be a different shape, but the seal is still sufficient.

I just did a pressure test up to 70'ish PSI with the fittings and they had not leaked at all in approx 10 minutes during testing.

I'd test it longer, but I'd rather get it installed on the vehicle. If it starts leaking, I'll be the first to get on and state that they are not a good choice.

I didn't mean for it to get into a pissing match, but it was merely to give people options.

Here are some pics for those wondering the differences.

The 37* sealing surface extends farther, resulting in a slightly smaller opening than my XRP fitting I had laying around. That doesn't affect sealing, but possibly flow would be rated a little lower due to the smaller opening.

Also the threads aren't as deep on the PSC fitting, which is ok since the seal is made with full contact of the threads, not extra threads showing like on the XRP fitting

Not bad for a $16 option. :)
