Fuel Guage pegged straight up

My fuel guage has decided that it wants to stand straight up for some reason. I am not sure why this is but I know that I dont have a full tank because I live in California and I dont think anyone can afford to completely fill their tank. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks guys.

Is that behind the dash or on the gas tank? Sorry for my ignorance

Well i would check the wires coming out of the tank. More specifically the ones with a GM type connector behind the license plate and the ground is attached to the frame in the rear.

If you use an ohm meter on that plug, you will get a reading from 0-90. 90 being full. That will test if the sender in the tank is ok. If the wires all look ok in the back, and everything is securely grounded/fastened then it could be your cluster but doubtful.

Yep, mine is doing the same thing.I found ground wire right behind the gas door under the truck was broken from contact to the frame.Hope this fixes it.
