fuel pump voltage

What's the normal voltage at the fuel pump through the factory wiring? Anyone upgrade the wiring to get higher voltage? If so, please give details as to how you did it and the results.

Or any feedback from the KB boost-a-pump?

Jim,
It is very easy to fab up your own fuel pump relay system. I did it myself sometime back using a 30 amp relay and some wire. The relay and wiring was "free" since those replacement "Blazer" brand fog lights I use on both trucks come with everything you need. Got one relay running my alky system and the other running the fuel pump.
Good luck

Some people prefer the plug and play approach knowing their harness is professionally made using factory-type weatherproof connectors and relays.

I have no beef with your products, I have heard they are nice. I do believe there are those that would rather do it themselves, and for those there is a very cheap and in my opinion, better option. I dont like the stock connectors, solder and heat shrink is my prefered way to make a weatherproof connection.

If one were to use adhesive-lined heatshrink then perhaps the connections might be weatherproof. Factor in the cost of a waterproof relay + relay socket ($24.00), waterproof fuse holder ($16.00), wire, hardware and labor and the Racetronix solution becomes very appealing even for the most technically adept people. Yes, there are always people who will use open style relays and fuse holders etc. to do the job but this is not the same nor is it a reliable approach.

Some other positive aspects of the Racetronix harness are:
- It does not come a permanent part of the vehicle. If there was a failure in the fuel pump wiring system it would be much easier to isolate and diagnose.
- Not having to spend time lying on your back splicing wires with a hot soldering iron and heatgun / lighter in your hand within a couple feet of the gas tank.
- Having the Racetronix harness allows you to power up the fuel pump w/o the vehicle running if you wish to drain the tank (w/optional PnP jumper). (i.e. at the track or limp-home mode)
- Lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

Dont take my alternate opinion as threatening, there are many that like the plug and play your harness. Just because others have what they feel are better ways, isnt something for you to get worked up about. New ideas are good, and are likely what spawned your harness in the first place.

Like many things I do on my truck, I give myself a warranty as well for parts and labor. I am currently doing durability testing on my DIY setup  , almost a year of all weather use.

Our trucks come with the neat feature you list in the last point, it is called the fuel pump test connector on the firewall.
If you use the gray wire at the pump to trigger the relay, the fuel pump test connector will still work as intended.

After looking over your webpage I must say this deal is a great way to go for those replacing their stock pump with the walbro, if doing the relay yourself isnt an option:

How about working up a step down box & harness, or something similar, for those using monster pumps?

I think you'd sell a ton of those.

No opinions are being taken as a 'beef' or 'threatening'. We are simply pointing out the advantages to the Racetronix product just as you have pointed out the potential aspect of saving money buy taking the D-I-Y approach.

Racetronix does manufacture universal harnesses that may be used with large external pumps. These harnesses may be custom ordered to be PnP compatible with the Sy/Ty factory wiring. This way the power trigger can simply plug into the factory fuel pump connector.

Racetronix manufactures many items that are not listed on our current web page. These unlisted items will soon be listed once the new web page is active in the next few months.

Just to let everyone know, I received my Racetronix fuel pump harness Friday and installed it in about 20 minutes. It's a real first class kit with everything required. It was a pleasure to received what I ordered, on time, with all the right parts included. I highly recommend it.

bdubb, I think you missed the rest of the thread because your post does not make sense.

To recap, Racetronix has injectors and fuel pump kits for the Sy/Ty retail market at this time which are available web-direct and through some of our dealers. There will be new products coming out this summer that might be of interest to some Sy/Ty owners. When we are ready to introduce these products they will be listed on our web page.

Whatcha got in mind? PWMed speed control? Maybe something that uses FETs or the like. What kinda heat/abuse/voltage monkey business can one of these big pumps tolerate before it starts to get cantankerous?

Ive kicked the idea of doing my own control a few times but Ive never had one of those super duper he man pumps in my possession to tinker with and see what it liked or didnt like.

Any insight would be appreciated.
