Bought this truck a year ago, finally got around to inspecting ECU. Pulled the hypertech out and put stock chip back again. Took truck out today and my results:
1) overboost gone.
2) vacuum line on wastegate side of boost solenoid is now reading boost (like it is supposed to). With hypertech, boost readings read flat zero on aftermarket boost gauge while factory dash gauge was starting to max out. I can't imagine how they thought this was good programming on a 2 bar MAP stock vehicle.
3) TC shudder has lessened, and seems to be harder to reproduce. still there though. I plan to flush/filter and add lubeguard soon.
4) shifts seem a tad softer. Still very firm though (harder than my GMC Sierra on tow/haul mode).
5) part throttle with a couple psi boost feels weaker....possibly b/c wastegate is starting to open as it should.
Does anyone know what else the hypertech does specifically? I searched and found a thread where somebody said timing is advanced...but couldn't find any info about shift points, raising boost, or IC pump on setting...
My next steps:
1) order OBD1 usb cable and get some software.
2) hook aftermarket boost gauge up to vacuum lines under plenum (I think I've diagnosed boost readings around solenoid enough now).
3) adjust wastegate rod until it peaks at 14 psi (to be safe). not sure where it is actually peaking at now until i relocate boost gauge source.
