Glass-fiber snorkel?

Guys, the intake snorkel (from filter assembly to turbo) is cracked and broken off at both ends. I'm playing with the idea of having one made out of glass fiber. Has anyone of you done that? If so, any issues with heat and durability?

I'd deep-six the whole idea and either do a battery relocation to the drivers side and put the filter where the battery is, or custom fab something with a cone on the end of the orange elbow. Over the top of the radiator heat soaks the snot out of the tube and warms air up even more before hitting the turbo.

Seems like one helluva lot of work to keep a marginal design operational....

Re: Glass-fiber snorkel?

It's a good concept, but I'm not sure if the battery would actually fit between the oil filter assembly and the radiator. And could the battery tray bolt on the other side of the engine bay?
That said, your suggestion made me think of using a "cooking pot" air cleaner assembly from a Toyota Hilux, complete with a swirl intake tube... interesting. I'll have to look into that one!

Thanks,

It all comes down to inginuity and how much you want to mess with your truck at this point. Making stuff fit, using a smaller battery, etc. all come into play with modding stuff like this. Another option is to use a smaller battery like an Optima red top, and move the battery down below where it is in stock dress. You remove the stock tray and the battery sits flush by the radiator support and inner fender. It clears a lot of room for doing air intake mods. There are a few pics on this page and the next one of the mod. Its pretty slick.
