Ok, I'm just throwing this up in the air. In case the OE turbocharger goes bust, what other turbos can fit with the minimum amount of modifications/trouble? Anyone tried bolting (or welding) on something else?

Minimum as in parts replacement or modification? You can put a lot of different turbo's on with differnent down pipe, torque converter, fuel injectors, and other parts which would need very little modification per say just changing parts. If you want a bigger turbo without any part replacement, then the biggest I'm aware of is JWaller's TD06-GT30 which I'm in the process of doing right know and will post before and after dyno runs and time slips in a couple weeks. A lot of guys say you can run the 20G, but alot of guys will tell you, you will have alot of turbo lag and need a different torque converter. I dont have any personal experience with it, just hear say HTH!!

A major good thing is that you have a T3 (Garrett) turbine inlet flange, so your options for replacing the turbo are pretty good. However, if you want to replace the CHRA (turbine/compressor rotating assembly), you would need to use a Mitzubishi unit because of the v-band style fastening to the turbine housing. I've heard about that Gt30 upgrade, but don't know what it consists of. If you're thinking of upgrading like that, get ahold of one of the syty vendors. They're geniuses (genii?).

One of the main reasons I went this route is my motor was just replaced before I bought the truck it only has maybe 1K on it, so I'm trying to get more performance out of it without putting it under too much strain, plus I didnt want to spend the extra $$ on the torque converter and injectors yet. Saving the difference I didnt spend for other mods, probably brakes. But when this motor goes bad look out there be no holds barred on this thing I'll probably push it until its just bearly street legal, I mean if it isnt scary and hard to control what fun is it!!

Yah it looks good, but it says other enginge mods needed, so what other stuff do you have to do, I'm thinkin like direct replacement no mods needed whats so ever.

That was pretty much what I had in mind when I asked. I meant just going to the junkyard and yanking some turbo off some totalled vehicle.
