Out driving saturday night decide to punch TY to make across freeway overpass. Boost came up great , turbo whistling then I smell antifreeze. I busted the heater core. How ? I don't know but this the 4th one I have had to replace since owning the TY. Anyone else ever encounter this issue before.

Re: Heater Core

are you buying aftermarket ones? If so, you should spend the extra coin gor a GM one.

Re: Heater Core

it was talked about in the past a bunch of times.. but if your motor mounts are kinda beat allowing your engine to move allot from torque it could stretch your hoses causing the heater core to crack or break on the shitty welds at the tubes

Re: Heater Core

when you get the heater core look where it is broken. dunk the core in a 5 gallon bucket add some air and see where it bubbles. If it leaks from around where the pipes enter the core look at your motor mounts. Then replace the core with one from a non ac truck. The pipes are short and dont tend to break due to the leverage on the long ones...

Stab it and steer it
Re: Heater Core

One other note: There is a little support piece that, if left off, will allow the tubes to vibrate and eventually break.

Re: Heater Core

Pulled heater core this morning. It has a bulge on the bottom row, looks like it just expanded or something. Motor mounts are fine, and hose are long enough, maybe just a crappy core it lasted about 2 years. Thanks for the heads up guys. I might try a heater core for a non a/c truck.
