Help! Gas overflow at pump...

So I finally got my truck running and I got a temporary permit to drive. I took it to a gas station and when filling up, it overflowed. It only burped a small amount, maybe 1/4 cup. I just replaced the gas tank, pump and sender and this was the first time I ever was able to fill it up from the pump.

I am guessing that the fuel recovery line is clogged or something, but god help me I don't want to drop the tank again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand what you're asking.....did you put too much gas in it?

Could it have been the auto shut off on the gas pump?

The auto shut off on the gas didn't stop the flow until gas was pouring down the side of the truck.

Could it have been the auto shut off on the gas pump?

It's possible, but considering the amount of work I just did to the fuel system and the fact that it hasn't been filled up in like 14 years, I am thinking something is wrong.

I pulled out the evap canister and found out that it has gone bad. I am able to easily blow through the purge side and it won't hold vacuum on the control valve side. Not sure if this is related.

I'd still vote for a problem with that pump. Gas pumps are supposed to shut off at the first sign of postive tank pressure.

If the pumped stopped several times because fuel was at the top of the filler tube then its the vent line.

If the gas dumped on the ground then its the fuel nozzle's fault.
