What did it cost you for that build of a tranny Jimmy?

No clue, all I know is when I broke it John fixed it for parts cost, and the last time it "broke" (it was still driveable but I knew something was wrong) the only problem was a broken small sprag.Everything else was tits.

John put in a custom cryo treated sprag for cheap and I've been trouble free for a long damn time.

We went through our trials and tribulations (which should be expected with the 700) but the R&D was worth the effort IMO,and Wally never failed to hook a brother up when called upon.

Waller will give you a good price on a bulletproof 700r4 trans.

Re: help on my next move.

I would definately go for the 500+ HP one if you go along these lines gary. Probably worth the extra 700. What's the price difference compared to everything you would need to convert to the 4L80E. I read the prices in georges area, but it's all so confusing to me. I HATE TRANNIES!

Re: help on my next move.

total it will be about 6k. The problem is I was going to use that $$ for an engine rebuild. Remember my engine has 95k on it. Thats next. Its just hard for me to spend 6k on a trans. but I guess its cheaper then geting 3 rebuilts.

Re: help on my next move.

I think your tranny is more important now...lol...Rebuilding it again, and again, and again is going to be a non-stop process for the engine rebuild. How much you drive your SY anyways, it should be fine for a while. I'm at 136K almost 137K on stock engine and it's going strong. And you know when you rebuild your engine it's probably gunna be .030 over, better pistons, rings, those heads you go, 4 bolt mains, bigger valves......You're gunna be pushing a LOT more HP and you're going to need the 4L80E anyways. Just think of your tranny breaking as a re-arrangement of processes

I have aways said since day one. I want a solid 12 second truck. Even when I was looking for a SYTY. To me thats a truck that can go 12.2-12.3. but is normaly 12.5-12.6. I guess I am a few parts and an engine build away from that. Oh, and a trany too. :D
He claims his 700r can take 500hp+.?? I guess it comes down to what my credit card company says.

I went to the strip on Friday night. It was nippley cold out.Shitty 60' foot (1.81) and spun for 90 feet went 7.84@89 in the 1/8th which is a 12.2 1/4.

I'm telling you man,Waller will hook you up.

Trust me....Jimmy truly enjoys his Typhoon at every opportunity and when he wants to go fast, it is insanely quick. I've ridden in it and the tranny performs flawlessly regardless if he is tooling around (seldom) or under full boost (often). If I ever cross the rebuild bridge, which will occur hopefully later than sooner, I will be contacting Waller. The way in which he treats his clients during and after the rebuild process (if for no other reason) sold me.

Re: help on my next move.

From what I hear, the clutches are small. cant fix that. I dont know tranys at all. I just want it to work. I have heard people with 100k on the stock ones. Jeremy (bay area jeremy) has a fast Sy with a stock trans I think. Thats why I posted here. I dont know what to do. I have the cash to get the 700 rebuilt right now or wait 6 months and do the 80e?? I dont want to rush and be back here again. Still not 100% as to whats involved in the conversion?? and pics?

Re: help on my next move.

Buy a 80e and install with a 80e kit ,tranny computer , and new convertor . Lengthen your front shaft and shorten your rear shaft . Fill with fluid and drive away .

Once you've bought everything , you'll already be past the hard part .

Will I need different lines, cooler? How much to do the shafts about. Stuff always cost more in the bay area

Re: help on my next move.

I bought my stainless braided lines from RPM , already assembled .Tell him you are using a cooler so you get the extra line needed . Any trans cooler will work that has 1/2 fittings , just dont get the hose barb version .Driveshaft stuff was 150 balanced .

Re: help on my next move.

I was skeptical of the waller 700r4, any 700r4 for that matter. Sounds like it's really nice though and if you do plan on staying in the 12's it should do fine. Just don't get into 11's....lol....which I still think you can with your setup tuned right.

Re: help on my next move.

I have an RPM race tranny in my Sy, it's nowhere near stock. But the TCI converter in the truck is garbage and will be replaced with a 2500 stall billet 9/11 in a few weeks. Once I blow this tranny up, it's getting converted to a 4L80E because there's no way I'm going through $3000 700R4s every couple of years.

Re: help on my next move.

mine was "not stock" too. Now its dead :( still not sure what killed it. it slipped when we first left Stevens house. It was doa before that. Oh well. like you guys said. its an excuse to get a better one. Dito on the 3k in trans every few years. SO the 80e is realy that much better. Should I get a 2800 stall too. Sucks, because now I am stuck with the smaller turbo. Oh well.

What are you talking about smaller turbo? You said you wanted a consistant low-mid 12 sec truck and with a fixed tranny thats what you will have. Now what do you want to do go for 11's, high 10's, don't worry about me Gary i'm just gonna follow you around and buy all your month old used stuff that you don't want anymore because you decided to go faster :D

Remember, get a idea in your head of how fast you want to go and head striaght for that, it will be way cheaper, or don't and again i'll be right behind you buying up all the used old stuff. I get a discount if I buy in bulk right

Re: help on my next move.

Interested in the 80e stuff. Pm me when you find something.
I dont want a bigger turbo to go faster...I would like a bigger turbo so it does not have to work as hard. If I see 11's I will shit my pants. I dont think I can do that unless I fly someone over to tune my truck. My truck was running good, not great but good. I started seeing more knock out of nowhere.(hmm..could that have been something to do with the trans going out???) Looks like the 80E is in my future. Now I have to find the money. I am wrapped up in these 2 houses and the money is tight! Still wish I can make sure its the trans and not a converter or tv cable. I dont trust shops. All they want is $$$.
