Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

Worked on the truck yesterday but still didn't get the piston out. We are having trouble getting the oil pan out :banghead: GMC certainly didn't design these trucks with ease of service in mind  Next time we will try and finish removing the front differential which is mostly done except for one stupid bolt that's in a near impossible place to get to. I can't believe it, a frapping oil pan is holding things up

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

It's been 2 weeks since we last were able to work on my truck. The guys helping me with this project are coming over tonight to finish removing the front differential, drop the oil pan and remove #6 piston. Tomorrow morning I'll take it to the machine shop and get the replacement piston ready to install. Once that's done then we can begin putting it back together!!! Yea!! Maybe I'll be able to drive it again before summer is over!!!! (Summers are short here).

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

Success  Finally! The oil pan is off and #6 piston is out and is at the machine shop. I ordered new rings which should be in early next week. After that we begin putting it back together. Aside from replacing the piston the only other mods I plan to make is change out the stock rocker arms to roller rockers and replace the stock valve covers with chrome covers. The target date for being back on the road is by the 2nd week of June.

"Premium fuel preferred" is an understatement.

Yep, that be the piston! Anyway the replacement with new rings was installed this evening so we are ready to put it back together. Montana will need ur help Timbo for the rest of it. Don't know if we'll make it before the 17th but we'll see. Hopefully I got all the new gaskets and parts needed to finish up. Thanks

Once ya getter back on the road I would still be hestiant on laying into it. I believe 90 octane is the best we can do for pump high test...Thats why I only run 110 or better..Klotz is the easiest to come by in Fairbanks so that what I use. I got 120,000 miles on mine before I tore it down for the heck of it one weekend while I was bored. GOOD LUCK !!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

I bought the motor & tranny from a private individual so there wasn't any warranty. This problem was my fault anyway and after tearing down the motor I saw that it was sold as advertised; a never used crate motor. The motor was as clean as a whistle internally.

Anyway, timbo and akryder86 haven't been able to come over the past 2 weeks so its just been sitting in the garage. I did install the roller rockers on the drivers side so now its just getting it back together, tuning it and making sure it's running right with no leaks.

I've been trying to get a hold of akryder86 but haven't heard back from him and timbo has been out of town. Don't know when it will be back on the road now, hopefully before summer's end!!!!

Well, it's going back together. The repaired head is installed along with the pushrods and roller rockers. Perhaps it'll be running within the next two weeks. It's getting there :D

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

Progress has come to quick halt for the moment. A medical emergency has put a halt on putting the engine back together. Please pray for Montana's sister who developed an aneurysm last week. Haven't been able to get a hold of him to find out how she's doing.

The rebuilt head is installed and the roller rockers are on but need to be adjusted. I'm having knee joint replacement surgery on Aug 4th so I don't if I'll be able to drive it again by then or not. It's all up in the air for now.

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

We've made more progress is getting it back together. The machined head is back on, Roller Rockers installed and adjusted, the upper & lower intake is back on, valve covers are on. Gotta get the linkage hooked back up, install the exhaust manifold & turbo, put the oil pan back on and the front differential and axles back in place. I think we can have it back on the road very soon if we can get a couple of good days of work to finish it up. So Close

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

It's been nearly a month since my last post. Tim and Montana have not been able to help as they were due to taking on additional jobs and other things going on with them. I did have total knee joint replacement surgery in both knees back on August 4th so I am home recuperating from surgery. At this point I have no idea when it will be finished :( All I can hope for now is to have it running before the winter sets in.

Re: Hope I didn't blow it!

Actually I'm recovering very rapidly which is a good thing! I'm walking with just a cane now and can get around pretty good. I go to physical therapy 3 times a week and get a pretty hard workout. I haven't been cleared to drive yet by my doctor but hope to be within the next couple of weeks.

The guys who've been helping said they would try and get over sometime next week and finish my truck. If they can't then maybe someone else in this area with experience may be able to help finish it up. I'm really!!! anxious to get it back up and running. I miss my truck!!
