How Fast should I be

I have L35 heads with 2.02 1.60, that have been ported to the max, My intakes have been ported to the max, custom grind 430 lift cam, 3 bar chip, 33lbs injectors, egr delete, cold air, pulleys, 2400 stahl, 255 fuel pump, shurflo pump, fan on lower, custom scoop, comverter lock up switch, and 3 inch exhaust, not real sure how much boost I can run with stock turbo. I am planning on 17, maybe more. I plan on going pte 52 next winter. Money ran short on this rebuild. I was just curios what I could run when it gets back together.

jerry mccoy is burning a chip to work with everything that i have. He helped me set everything up. As far as the parts and what to get.

I ran out of money to buy a 9/11 so I have a friend that works at COAN Transmission, and he just fixed my stock converter and done a few things to it for free. He said that he could not stall my stock converter to 2800 but could bend the fins over and maybe get a few more hundred rpms out of it.

You have a good MPH for that 13.2...

As far as the potential of your current combo? 12.5 could be possible with 17-18 psi. But it depends on the software. IMHO it will require a lot of itteration to reach the optimal config in that bin. Tuning...

Good luck.

... pulleys ...

Watch that. Quite a few people run into voltage issues with underdrive pulleys, and these electrical systems are already a pain as it is...

There are some basically stock trucks with the Ultimate running 12.4-12.5. Someone said a while ago that they were going to try for 11s on an "almost stock" truck this summer. If yours is tuned properly, you should be able to go faster than that considering your upgrades. Like others have said, your heads and injectors will require tuning... If not tuned properly, you'll probably run 14s or even worse. It's all in making sure the parts work together properly...

Let me know how that thing runs. I am curious to see how much engine a stock turbo can feed. Who ground that cam?

I have seen a basicly stock truck with 2500 stall and 20G run 11.9's

The best thing about that combo was 1.6 60's with no tire spin, once tuned tire spin becomes a problem, I tried one launch over 2psi at the 02 Nats and my Stoker (ST class) Spun all 4 for the first 10 feet and ran 12.5 with Bfgs.

With all the tricks and tunning you should run high 11's.
I would keep the stall and pick up a pte44 or 50 even a 20g and have Dig or BG custom tune it, then shoot for mid 11's.

There are some ST trucks trying for the 11's this year Mark C. ran 12.4 on a 20/20 tune with a bad conveter, he thinks it was not locking at all!

My truck ran 12.4 on a milder tune 18/16 (bad air and 60') I am trying to talk Kurt into stepping it up to the 20/20 this year, with a good 60' and good air he has a shot.

i had a very similar build.

ported L35's
ported intake
custom grind cam

all came from mccoy motor sports.

i can tell you this from experience.
low rpm will suffer when using a program designed around a stock motor truck. (stock injector chips such as the ultimate V6, V7, or any of the other popular 2 bar chips, including the stock chip) it will work, but its not the best choice.
also, the stock turbo will run out of steam big time at about 12psi with this combination.
you think im kidding, but im not. it will run like a bat out of hell up to about 10psi then it will feel like its not getting any faster even though the boost continues to go up. if i had to guess, id bet you go slower with the built motor than a stock motor as long as you use the stock turbo and stock programming.

waller has a program that will work reasonably well with this combination for ultimate carriers, but it uses 50lb injectors. it could also use a little fine tuning, since its written around the comp 412 cam, but its a great place to start. idle/drivability is really good on the open loop settings.

a bigger turbo is definately in order. id think about upgrading your turbo and injectors/program down the road when your bank acount recovers from the engine build. you will probably find about 1.5sec in those two mods. i did.

thanks for the help. I plan on going bigger turbo now as soon as I can get the money together. Oh I have 33lbs injectors if that makes a differance. Jerry Mccoy ground the cam for me, and help me with everything that I have bought. I will be taking to Jerry when i get the engine in and have him tune it for me. E-Rue what did you run with your setup?

I ran out of injector by the time I got to high 12's with the ultimate chip. This was with the stock injectors. You will need a least the #50 injector chip setup. Running lean hurts the pocketbook.

If interested.. I am going to sell my turbo and ATR dp/wastegate setup. Went 12.7s with stock injector (maxed out @over 120%duty cycle) and t44e turbo and stock motor. I am currently running mid 11s with same dp/waste gate and te63 turbo with a MCCoy bowtie motor, headers, 3300 stall conveter, etc.

Still have the t44e and will be taking off the te63/dp/wastegate shortly. Both of these turbos have less than 500 miles. By the way I moved to Fort Wayne, how far is that to you? I was racing in Muncie last fall. Is that close to your area?

Hi.

Jerry Mccoy ground the cam for me, and help me with everything that I have bought.

Sorry about your luck. Jerry Mccoy does NOT grind cams. He sends a stock cam away to be ground. I have the "custom" cam out of the motor he did for Randy b4 i bought the truck. Its amazing how the junk, chewed up 509 lift cam looks remarkably like the stock cam that Randy saved from his first build before he took truck to Mccoy. They ground the stock cam soooo far down that they went to where the metal wasnt hardend and it just flaked away. I can send u some pictures if you like, i made sure to save the cams and the pictures i took.

I have done nothing but fix problems on this sy since i bought it from Randy. 99.9% of the problems were because of the worse than terrible work done by Mccoy's shop. I wouldnt take my lawn mower there to be worked on. I have more than enough proof here at my home of their shady work. I have now finnaly (i hope) got everything in correct working order and i feel safe driving the truck.

My dad is ASE MASTER Certified and has been running his own buisness for 26 years and has been building and running his own drag cars for longer. If anyone would like to talk to us about Mccoy and how terribly discusting their workmanship is, feel free to email me privatley at tjoy@carr.org

I had a 430 lift cam but sent it back and got the comp cam i think 412. He had always been good to me and helped me when i needed it. He has always sent me good parts and I have never had a problem with him. I am sorry about what happened to you but jerry has helped me and I am sure others out with our trucks. Accidents happen with stuff and it sucks, but thats why you can do it yourself to. It was taken to him because someone did not know how to work on it. The place right behind jerrys shop are the ones who ground my first cam.
