Pull it out, and look it over for markings or stampings. That blue color is the same blue as a "Recon" converter I had for a non-syTy project. Recon is an aftermarket wholesale supplier to the transmission shop trade. Doesn't mean it's a "Recon", but it's definitely not stock.

If you see a "GM-18" on it somewhere, that's the generic trade nomenclature for reconditioned converters for the 32-spline 4L60 converter. There is a GM-18H which is the 'high-stall' converter used in some applications. The factory-published stall RPM is "2025" for a GM18H.

Look it over. Report what you find.

That pic was taken last year when I put the new engine in. I dont have access to it now w/out pulling transmission. I read some google posts about testing stall by basically doing a boost launch without the launch, just step on gas and see what max rpm achieved is and that was supposed to be your stall speed.

I had it taped over while working in the engine compartment and to power wash the frame.

Its called flashing your stall. Drive the truck doing about 15 mph in drive but rolling in 1st gear. Give it half throttle and watch where the rpm needle jumps up to. It may take a couple tries but its fairly accurate.

Ya. That will give you an ok idea. within a couple hundred rpm. When your wheels start to spin, your out of stall. only other way is what Dave posted.

Re: How to determine stall speed of my TQ

I did me some learnin' on this subject last night and this is how I understand it. The stall convertor controls the point at which the tire's traction breaks free on a launch. If you hold down the brake and start to step on the gas, you will notice, at a certain point in the powerband, your tires will start to spin. If they start to peel out at 2800 RPM, then you have a 2800 RPM stall convertor.

The stall speed is influenced by torque. Many SyTy will brake stall over 3000-3400 at the line with a 2800 rpm TC.

Call Precision and ask. 2k is my bet. A quick google and the info is in the first few links. Do a search for "4842hs converter" without the quotes.
