Sorry it's so long but it's the most exhilerating racing experience I had ever had.
Well, I'm not much for telling kill stories but I will be designing a new kill sticker for the SY.
Met up with a friend of mine that has never ridden in a SY before. He has heard about them but never actually been in one. We head out for a short little cruise and just hitting it on the highway he gets a grin from ear to ear. We pull onto the shoulder and I do a 2-3 lb launch and he is absolutely speachless. He finally comes out and says "Hey why don't we go down to the local hang out?" I said sure, lead the way.
Once we arrive there are a lot of cars sitting ont he road side, sort of like a social gathering. We just do a drive-by with minor accellerations. We do a u-turn and head back to park. While socializing a bit one guy comes over and asks if I was the guy in the Syclone. I said yes. He replies that he has a TY but it's in pieces. GOt all these parts ordered to make it fast. Truns out that he put a 75 shot on it and blew the heads off of it. I suggested we make some time and get it back on the road again. he changes the subjec and wants to know what mods I have done to my SY. I tell him it's mostly stock with all the "free" mods and assumed stuff for reliability.
He goes on telling me about his friends camaro Z-28 and how he has done some mods and it runs pretty quick. I look over and he has the big tires and it's pretty clean. Never popped the hood but it sounded pretty good. Now this guy is wanting me to race and I eventualy break down and agree.
Cars are lined up 10-12 deep and all racing like crazy. I must say that this is my first experience inthis type of street racing. It was just like the videos and Fast-N-Furrious I'm not kidding. Finally the guy flagging the cars stops traffic and lets us pull out. We line them up and I begin to build boost. He drops his arms and we are off.
Immediately I jump out a 1-2 cars and keep my lead through 75-80 mph. One of the racers was slowed down ahead of us so I had to let off around 85 and I had the feeling that he may have shortened the gap to a car. We do a U-turn and line up again heading back. Same results as the first time and he looks a little upset that his moded V8 just got beat by a V6 truck.
Once we pull back in and park his friend walks over with him and demands to know what mods I have done. Says there's no way it's as stock as I claimed. I popped the hood and said have a look for yourself. After a few minutes he says "then you must have a high stall converter". I reply Nope, not even a built tranny.... 100% stock in that area. (JSM can vouch for this) He accepts it and gives the 2 thumbs up! We BS a little more and all we hear inthe background is everyone talking about how that black truck launched. they were all dumbfounded and never saw anything like it. I just grinned on the inside and talked with confidence.
Next thing we hear is "COPS!!!" Damn, now what do I do? We all scatter to our cars and GTF out of there. WOW, what a rush! By far the best racing experience I had ever experienced. A couple guys out there had video cameras so i may head back downin a couple weeks to see if anyone caught my run on tape. I'll post it if I find one.
