ISTA and Future Nats....? (long)

Truckless. For now.
I know it was around in the past. My truck still has an ISTA sticker on it.

Here's the question, who would be interested in an Annual Membership? There would even be a "New Member Kit" or something.

It might contain:
• Membership card - (present card for discounts with vendors? thinking out loud here)
• ISTA Sticker/Stickers
• Part No. Quick Reference in a Pocket/Glove Box size (Standard stranded on the roads parts - plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter... stuff like that)
• Datamaster/Turbo-Link/Diacom Quick Help Guide -
- Just a quick sheet or two or three with common values like O2, Air/Fuel, BPW, etc.
- Something to give a good starting reference for tuning
• ISTA T-Shirt
• Any other ideas?

After your first year as a member, each year you renew your membership, you would get the new ISTA shirt. Also, maybe the "new member" membership would be more expensive - due to the 'kit' - and every year after, there would be a reduced rate...

The reason for the membership you ask? After all the expenses of putting things together, all 'profit' would go towards the following years Nats. For example: I pay $50 to be an ISTA member in 2007. Any profit would go towards Nats 2008.

I know this is a huge undertaking and there's tons of logistics involved in making it work. I'm just curious to know if anyone would be interested.

Having a more organized club structure would help get more recognition, magazine coverage, etc. in the future. More money for Nats means better events.

The reason I'm looking into this is I already have a jump on "club merchandise." I have written permission from GM to use GMC, Syclone, Typhoon and Sonoma GT logos for club related items. It's one step out of the way.

Oh, I guess I should also ask if this was tried in the past and failed? I've only been active in the SyTy community since 2002. Any input on this from the OG's would be much appreciated.

Again, just thinking out loud here.

Any thoughts?

Great idea...but it is difficult to do when the entire community is run by clicks. That'll piss someone off.........and I don't give a damn!

Good question. Someone had it back in the day. The sticker on my truck is very "official" looking. Looks like a high quality sticker. It's still in decent shape after 4 years of Colorado winters and who knows how many years of Arizona sun.

Someone's gotta try ;) Of course, I'm not guaranteeing anything... There's got to be enough interest before it's worth the effort of beginning something this huge.

If you're talking about that swirly looking logo...as far as I know they never registered the name. I do know that someone else from my area DID register it and set it up properly. I'll try to get a hold of him and see what the scoop is.

Thanks. I know what a pain it is to go through that process. Took almost 3 months to get permission from GM... and that was for existing logos.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I'm just looking for a way to help raise money for Nats and get SyTy's a little recognition.

You know the saying about how behind every good man is a woman... :) It's a good thing I love him!
T Jay is right, this is a huge undertaking, but the results would be awesome.
I won't pick sides at all but I will say that I will help out in any way even if it's just to dig my husband out of a huge mess. (love ya babe!)

I got a couple of ISTA stickers from Ed O'Rourke a few years ago. I think he still sells them at www.tyclone.com

:rotf: The only (sic) "clicks" at the Nats was everybody else and the instigators.

Maybe they weren't actual troublemakers  ,but they (lafinfag) sure did **** up the event by snitching out Robert to the NHRA.
