last cry for help :(

well unfortuntely I have gotten very little help in the Tuning forum but here is the thread anyway http://syty.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=210562#210562

basically what it comes down it is,

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY THIS POS HAS NO POWER!

It idles fine, everything ive been able to replace has been replaced or swapped out at some point.

Im almost to the point where if I cant get it running close to how it should be within the next few days, I'm most likely going to have to part it out now :( I really dont have any other choice.

If you have any thoughts or ideas, please post them, hell if you want, PM me with your phone number and Ill even call you in the evening!!!

I really dont know what else to do with this thing, nothing makes sense and I can only go over it so many times before I just drive it into the ocean.

Have you swapped ecms?

Did you run it with the exhaust disconnected? It wasn't clear from your post.

Does the turbo spin freely?

Fuel filter? pump?

Doube check all vacuum line routing.

Jim

ECMs are going to get swapped tomorrow actually if its not raining.

the exhaust has been off it since yesterday.

turbo is the stock one off my truck

fuel pump is new GM unit

fuel filter i was told was recent and doesnt seem all that old from looks, especially when compared to the rest of the undercarriage.

the vacuum lines have not only been double checked, but quintuple checked

Have you done a compression check.
yeah, the previous owner of the motor had done a comp test, checked out fine.

Steve (typhoonracer) was gracious enough to allow me to call him tonight also. We dicussed a few things including ECM swap, timing/balancer issues and also the possiblity of the ignition module being bad.

So for now at least I can stop thinking about it and tomorrow I'll have some more things to swap/test before I begin to go crazy and break stuff :)

Thanks again to Steve and everyone who has helped out so far, hopefully Ill be in a happier mood tomorrow.

If you do this make sure you post a video for us

The thing I find weird about the problem is the boost issues. Only one to two pounds of boost isn't good. Did you check and adjust the wastegate? Did you check the stock wastegate sylenoid and make sure that is not your problem? Some trucks hate the ATR chips too. I remember on my stock wastegate it only allowed me to build like 3-5 PSI before launching.
With out the exhaust you would think it would over boost too.

Tim, Ill definately keep the video in mind :)

THe wastegate is in the same position it was on my truck before I upgraded in May and the solenoid is brand new. It doesnt seem like a turbo problem, it seems more like it cant get the power to spool the turbo kinda problem.

As far as chips, the truck is stock, MY truck has the ATR chip in it, but Ill put my stocker back in when I swap ECMs tomorrow just to keep things normal.

Yes, normally it would overboost, which was the main reason I took the exhuast off. I had a clogged cat on my ty once and it felt the same way, but unfortantely this wasnt as easy a fix. What else is new in SyTy land :D

damn morgan that sucks! I just looked at the dm file you had. I'm glad you fixed the vac problem at least. This problem is way over my head but if there is anything i can do to help let me know. I have access to a parts ty is you need something.

hey do you have any files of it driving? maybe something will pop up?
nope, it hasnt left my driveway yet and Im still a little hesitant on doing it mainly cause it has no plates, no hood, no exhaust, no inspection, no registration and no insurance. :)

If I happen to know one of the cops on duty, I wont care, but I gotta find that out first.

Serious about performance
I was going to reply and say the file definitely looks messed up and to check the mechanical condition of the engine. Then I saw the replys and noticed your datamaster files are at 0 MPH. How can you build boost without moving? Unless your doing a boosted launch in your garage or something. My truck wont make more than 10 inches of vacuum in neutral but then again I would never floor my truck out of gear either. I think you should drive it down the block and back and post a new datamaster file. The 9* advance seems really weird , and the O2 mV are acting very wonky as well.

Is something clogging your intake like a shop rag or dirty air filter? I know a guy who sucked a shop rag through his turbo and it plugged up the inside of his intercooler core.

your a genius.

No offense, but I think you need to stop replying to my threads like I told you once before.

i dont know the whole problem your having, cuz i havent read the forum from before. but see if the fuel filters on backwards. they plug up fast.

I would double check to make sure your intake track doesn't have any leaks, you might not be hearing it leak because of the loud exhuast. Maybe the Turbo to Ic hose is split.

The other issues, I would look for would be a cracked exhaust manifold or too long of a wastegate acutuator arm. IMO With a known good turbo, the truck gotta make boost, its losing it somewhere.

ed hess

race or get outta the way
i can tell you all one thing.

there isnt anything wrong with that motor!

how do i know!

because its my old motor!

compression was like 150 or something on all cylinders before it came out.

granted i only got 13.4 out of it. but he shouldnt be havving a problem getting boost or power out of it.

Well, I was hopeing to have good news, but I dont.

I finally got tired of waiting for the rain to end, so I said screw it and pulled the truck out of the garage.

I pulled the ECM out of my truck, then pulled the ECM out of the project truck. The project truck has had the ECM replaced at some point cause it doesnt look like any other SyTy ECM ive seen (kinda got my hopes up), this ECM doesnt have the big white sticker that seals it, just a little rectangular paper decal that has Delco and some other info on it.

So I swap ECMs and fire it up, no difference :( Just for kicks, I put the project truck ECM in my truck, runs fine, perhaps even better?

So I put everything back to how it was.

Next thing Steve and I discussed was the spun balancer problem (yes Ed, I know you said it was fine). So I hook Datamaster up and adjust the timing till the spark advance is as high as I can get it to go which wasnt much higher than it was. Got in the truck and did a break stall, still no power, shut the truck off. Get the timing light out, unhook the brown wire and set it back to zero (truck seemed happier when I did).

Ok, so the 3rd thing to be checked out was the ignition module, but before I did that, I wanted to try something else vacuum related.

Remembering all the ABS codes the truck had, I figured I would remove the brake booster line and plug the manifold hole and see what happens, perhaps the brake booster is bad and the source of a leak.......good theory I guess, but it didnt turn anything up, so onto the ignition module.

Pull the one out of the project truck, then mine, put mine in, fire it up, no change :(

Well, with all the things on my list for today checked out with no improvement, I figured I would pop the throttle body out and check out the IAC since that seems to be something thats screwed up. Pulled it out, was covered with a light coating of crude, so I cleaned it, pluged it into the harness, key on (thingy moves out) key off (thingy goes back in), well, thats working I assume. Clean the TB once again and throw it all back together.

Turn the truck on for one last time, still no change, parked it for the evening.

So, yet another disappointing day here in SyTy land. Getting closer and closer to kissing the baby goodbye.

I did take four short videos but the sound is so garbled you cant hear anything worth downloading anyway :(

Can you hook up a real (mechanical) vacuum gauge and verify the ECU is seeing approximately the same reading.

At this point I'd plug ALL unnecessary vacuum lines to eliminate all possibilities. Did you have the intake off? Maybe it didn't seal properly?

I wish you the best on finding the problem, but please don't give up on it.

everything was off pretty much, all new gaskets.
