Looking for a Typhoon....

I didn't know where to post this, so I hope I am in at least the right place.

First off, I'm a lurker here and I want to say that I appreicate the stuff that you guys poat here and I have learned a lot through all of you guys and gals. Really great tech and info!!!

I am in the process of looking for a Typhoon around the Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio area after I get my S10 4x4 paid off (which should be in a couple of months). I'm not sure what to look for in these machines but from what I have learned and read, to actually test drive the vechicle and get it into boost to see of any problems exist. Also, check the front and rear driveshafts for play to see if it has been abused alot. Rust also??? If someone could direct me to a place that may have this information? It would be greatly appreciated.

I know of a real nice stock '92 ty for sale. Black/black, 80 something miles, atr exhaust and walbro pump and thats about it. The owner is in Illinois very nice guy and very knowledgable and the truck is mint his username here is awdsyty. Good luck on your search for the right ty.

I assume you've read all the stuff here, and the old SyTy.org Buyer's Guide. If you hang around here a while, you should pick up on the SyTy-specific problems to look out for. DataMaster is great for checking things out, as it shows all the sensors (not just the inaccurate stock gauges), and you can even record it (to check out other properties of the run later).

As for the rest of the truck, it is an S-10. It rusts in the same places and has the same general problems. You'll also want to check for rust along the cladding, as it sometimes rubs through the paint on the body. Other than that, it's mostly just standard S-10 stuff...

I'm between GR and Lansing, and spend a lot of time in Ypsi and Adrian. Wade's in Chelsea, and Barry's in Coldwater. There are plenty of us around that can check a truck out if you're serious about one.

Another tip for buying a SyTy: Don't settle for one you don't like. Though it may not seem like it, a better one will come along. I looked at one Sy, but didn't like a few little things about it. I drove to Indy to look at one and even got a loan for it. It was sold out from under me, but in the end I didn't really mind, as there were a few little things that just seemed odd about it. I eventually drove up to Middle Of Nowhere, WI, to get 1456. It was the right price, and exactly what I was looking for. I posted a want ad on syty.org with as much description as possible of what I wanted, and had half a dozen replies within just a few days. The more you know about what you want (stock, mint condition, full-out race truck, fixer-upper, etc.), the easier it will be to find one...

After my brother owned 2 of them, the second one ended up in the garage here in MI for the last few years when he moved. I had to maintain it, all i can say is find one that has working power window motors-Those were hell to do, not as easy as they say... ::eek:k::

It was nice having one around thats for sure :wink: That one went to IL.
