how much drop can you get by turning down the torsion bar keys or does someone make a set of drop keys or drop spindles for our wonderful typhoons? i wanna get an additional 2-3 inches of drop.

Re: lowering

no drop spindles for 4WD

1" front on the torsion bars and 2" blocks rear, that levels the TY
Best is go with Coilovers up front.

My Ty is 1 1/2" up front. Was 3" in the back but I pussed out on the extremely harsh ride and recently put it to 2".

Not to hijack the thread, but I just had to compliment the appearance of your Sy Bob. I've been debating painting my Ty some type of silver or grey, and seeing your Sy confirms my desire. Very nice.

Re: lowering

sorry guys but i just got off the fone with aim industries and the word is they have a replacement key that will give a 2" drop without affecting the ride so combining the 2" in key and turning down the keys could yield up to 3-4". they want me to fax them an outline of my key. so as soon as i can get to a point that will allow me i'll pass the info

3-4 inch of drop equals binding ball joints, From what I have read the factory drop actaully binds the ball joint in normal range of motion. Also if you drop it 3-4 its going to be riding on the bumpstops, You can use smaller bumper stops, but the wheels will hit the cladding, if its too small.

I am not big into dropped vehicles, so take that into account. IMO and it still had the stock suspension, I think it would be safe drop it in inch or so in front and level off the rear without much compromise.

Re: lowering

The factory GM torsion bar keys are the same stance as the Bell Tech drop porkchop keys.
Not sure what drop those claim, but it was based on a STOCK 4x4 not an already lowered stock SyTy.

Same with the Bell tech leaf springs.
They claim 3" drop but thats a stock S-Series, on a stock SyTy it's only about 1.5"

Re: lowering

You really don't need a different key than the one we have. My trucks are pretty close to being on the bump stops now. No way you could go any lower.

My ass. Look at it.

Bob,
Did you lower the front at all?

I want to lower the rear of my ty enough to level it out with the front...I hate the rake on these things. However I dont want to lower the front at all, since these trucks already ride like trucks :D .

Would lowering the rear 2.5" do what I want, or would it be too much without lowering the front?

Re: lowering

i'm seriously considering ditching the cladding on my truck for the time, especially since part of it's messed up and there's some rust hiding behind it, so i'm wanting my truck in the weeds and i'm gonna keep looking. now i called belltech they said they hadn't done any work with the ty/sy but whe i called aim the guy i talked to immediatly reconized the truck for what it was and said they had done some work with them. who knows. now if someone has bagged one i'd like to hear about that

Tyrodd, I lowered the rear 2.5 then adjusted the bars till they sat the way i wanted them to.

NecroWolf, You need to start doing some research on the suspension of these trucks. No bags, aftermarket coil overs are the only option. If the tire hits the wheel well what would be the purpose of going lower?

Re: lowering

the torsion bar front ends are the same as the 4x4 right? no difference other than lower? i've got a four wheel drive sitting in the front yard and wasn't sure if it was exactly the same or a simliar setup.

Re: lowering

My Sy is bagged all the way around. The front is setup with the bags in a porkchop setup(bags take the place of the torsion bar bolts and the rear is 4linked with a setup from ART

So it still uses the torsion bars? Pictures would be good right now.

Re: lowering

The SyTy Torsion bars themselves have different spring rates as well.
I knwo the GM part #s were syty specific, not sure of the spring rate # tho'.

It has been posted to the SyTy.org mailing list some time ago.

I remember seeing it posted, SyTy were one of the softer rates, (may 2nd softest of the 4 or 5 available by GM) The ofcourse are most likely discontinued.

Re: lowering

I used the same rear 2" lowering blocks on both the syclone and the black typhoon....the syclone didn't drop near as much as the typhoon.....what's up with that? is it that the typhoon's are heavier in the back? both sets of tires are roughly 24.5" tall and when i measured from the cladding to the top of the tires, the syclone has a 5" gap and the phoon has a 3.5" gap....can't really see it on this pic but here goes anyway....
