Met some guys from the local Corvette club at the local track Fridy night for test and tune. One of them has a 96 LT4 coupe (sweet car). We are friends and we both had been talking some pretty heavy smack prior to. He was mostly stock `cept for K&N, muffler deletes, and drag radials. I was running T1-17 and a batch of xylene. We got two runs together. First run we were both nice and cooled down. Hot lapped the second run like ten minutes later. Here's the nitty-gritty.

Syclone Vette
60' 1.995 2.053
E.T. 8.496 8.721
MPH 81.16 81.498

Kinda blew my launch on the first run. Thought it was a pro tree, almost left on the first light. Had to recover.

Run #2

Syclone Vette
60' 1.838 2.123
E.T, 8.489 8.860
MPH 79.857 81.454

Feels good to finally have a kill good enough to claim. T66Typhoon was there (in his vette). He was shooting some vids, maybe they will surface.

If your running Xylene, why only run t-117? I run t2-17 on pump gas without any knock up til about 90 or so when i start seeing knock.

You should be ok on t2-17 with that fuel. And the extra timing makes a hell of a difference.

When my TC locked on a previous run my KR hit 3.5* Other wise it was between 0-0.9. May give it a try next time.

I can't speak from exerience as I dont lock up my TC. but from what I've heard, the gain you get on locking it up vs. the life it takes away, is not worth it. IMO - using t2117 with an eye on knock, is much safer than locking up your TC. (and may be faster) I could be wrong, and i dont mind someone telling me I am. But personally I'd rather have a little knock than ruin my tranny.

Also each runs differently.
Try running t217, without the TC.... try it on pump gas, then try it on xylene. I tried t218 on pump gas and got lots of good knock :D so you might try t218 on xylene and see wht it does for ya... dont do it with out datamaster, but im sure you knew that.

point is, my truck pulls a lot harder on t2-17 than it does on t1-16/17. since i have very very very very little knock 0 (1.8 during shifts) I dont let it bother me. I get more knock around 100 (5 or so) but i almost never drive my ty that fast).

lemme know how it goes.

I'll definatly give it a try. Much like you I get my knock when it shifts. Probably just the knock sensor "hearing" all the noise coming from the tranny. Thanks

ya its no biggie. i dont get any knock on t116, and i get about 5-6 at wot @ 90-100mph on t217... then it goes away again. again this is all on pump gas, i haven't ran it with anything higher ... yet ;)

I thought I read on TurboBuick.com that Wal Mart sells Xylene or something similar. Is it true? If so, what should I look for?

Get it at a paint store. Mucho cheaper. Home depot wants $10 a gallon can. I get a 5 gal. pail for $25 at the local paint store.

Here is my "recipe" Makes ~100 octane.

5 gal of xylene and add 1 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil (lubricant)

Add to 15 gallons of 93 octane pump gas.

Usually what I do is add the Xylene to half a tank of 93, then putt up to the gas station and fill the rest of the way up.

One word of warning. Xylene does make yor truck kinda hard to start.

Hey Clint.. nice to meet you.

Also.. I have a 55 gallon drum of VP fuels C16... 118 octane fuel.

I will sell you some if you really want to see if you are getting knock or anything.

I have the video.. don't know if my g/f shot the video of the Sy or not... I know I shot your first pass. I think it was an 8.53....

I am going to work on the video tonight I think.

Also, I got my Ty back on the road last night... YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

If you want some gas let me know. Also my number is 389-2040.

I live off of Canton Hollow in Knoxville, across from Lovell so I am usually around.

Also CCtyphoon Got his running again last night... we need to get it to the track, so we will see what is going on over the next week or to and try to get together with you... any plans on heading back to the track soon?

Correct. Then it spits and sputters till it gets warm.

Nick, may have to take you up on the C16 offer. I can't get to the track for another two weeks the way my schedule falls. I'll give you a call, try to explain my schedule.
