I need to paint this airbox I made @ work w/help from a friend.

It now sports a K&N filter w/a 6' inlet & a nice smooth radius/velosity stack inlet.

Here is the ATR box next to custom box & ATR K&N filter next to new K&N.

Now that's a nice box! Where did you find that inlet bonnet with the nice radius on it?
Wanna make another?! ;)

I bought the radius from Ebay,$26 I bought it from a guy that ordered the wrong size. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLOX...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
example: http://www.amazon.com/Vibrant-Bellmouth-Velocity-Stack-Aluminum/dp/B002TUH48K
I would not mind to make more, but I really have no time to do much of anything.

Very nice.
Thanks.

whats the box made from?
Aluminum .050 IIRC, 6061 T6.
It's actually lighter than the ATR box, which,BTW is much smaller.

See ya,

Sorry,no time to do so right now.

Looks like Alclad... nice work on the fab.

Thanks, I Alodined the aluminum for corrosion prevention. Today I zink chrommated it.(primer) Tomorrow, hopefully black.

yea i would like one or maybe i can make a pattern off of yours ? or ill buy your old atr

After I get it installed,I will sell the ATR set-up.

I strongly suggest you DO NOT paint your intake box BLACK, it will just soak up the engine bay heat; unless you plan on insulating the inside of the box.

Re: Made custom air box

I was planning of installing foam on the inside.1/2" like on my intercooler blanket.Closed cell foam.

Filter gets cold air from my ram air scoop & also from behind the headlight.

Fender is sealed off from getting underhood heat.

I am always thinking of ways to cool off the intake charge as much as possible.

Re: Made custom air box

I thought about insulating the inside of my intake box also, but then realized that it would restrict the air volume and flow. So, I just used the sticky foam insulation on the outside again. You sure did a better job making your box than I did mine. :rotf:

Re: Made custom air box

looks good, can you post dimensions for other to make also. I noticed you dont have the wheel wells installed, will this still work if they are in place? Thanks :)

Dumb question, but has anyone thought about making one from a clear plexiglass, and painting it from the inside so that it retains the color? Just curious

Thanks,,

It should fit w/wheel well installed.

I will give dimensions after I check for clearance.

Here is a composite one also,less $$ & does not conduct/pick-up heat .

Maybe I can ask my friend if he could flow test both air fliters for comparision?
The new one w/the velosity stack & the other ATR/K&N filter w/no stack.

Not recommended. The radiant heat in that area would transform your "box" into a "glob" in pretty short order . Nice looking piece ! Reminds me that I need to start making some stuff for my truck too.

Re: Made custom air box

Quick update.
I installed the inner fender well & it all clears.
I did not get a chance to take measurements.
Hope to do so this week.

Any chance that you want to share dimensions or a pattern for this? I would like to fab a box up for myself.
