marine intake injector size

Re: marine intake injector size

ok i have more info now, but i still say advance the cam 2-4 degrees.

2 degrees made a night and day difference.

btw a 110 lsa isn't going to like boost...too much overlap. that is a naturaly asperated cam you need 114 and above.

56-460-8 is a great cam. 114 lsa

Re: marine intake injector size

oh, i know the lsa should be wider but the guy wanted lope. i explained it to him but he still wanted it. my hands were kinda tied on that part. i also told hime i recommened we ge an adjustable timing set but he said he didn't have any more money for awhile. this awsome build has slowly grown into a pain in my ass build. it sounded very cool at first and its kinda went down hill from there.

Re: marine intake injector size

Just for kicks..... I had a big problem with my injectors sealing to the bottom of the intake.

Take some carb cleaner and spray a bit down by where the injector go's into the manifold.

I had to use the stock Marine intake O-rings and the put a thinner one on top of that!

It had a high idle and missied/lean popped and hesitated till I got that solved.

Keep us updated.

We are limited by the V6 ECM... But it will fuel properly with the Power enrichment setup right.

It looks at the MAF more than anything else... if you've got good AFR... on the wideband then

your good to go.

What is the wideband reading anyway?

Re: marine intake injector size

i missed post 11 i guess. the 3 bump reluctor wheel was reinstalled. put it in to look like the pic in the book. it is keyed so i has to be on right. i checked the signal from it and it didn't have anything. so i'm going to get the other sensor tommorrow.

the timming chain went dot to dot. so unless its just bad the it should be right on. i know at dot to dot the valves were closed on number one lol.

as for right now it has stock marine injectors installed. although i think maybe the map might be leaking. it doesn't exactly fit in there perfectly. the maf is bad i know that thats why its unplugged. i have a code set for it so it just reverts to sd. i have another one but i have to dig it out of garage. the wide band isn't hooked up yet cause turbo is far from going on.

i'm so agervated with this thing. i'm suppose to be helping do this and instead i'm DOING everything. he left the maf in the back of the truck where it got soaked and ruined. then there was this problem and that problem.

So i'm going to dig out the maf plug it in. i'm going to check the map sensor make sure its not leaking. and to top it off plug in the new crank sensor. then if it idles like its suppose to i'll move on to installing the wideband for n/a tuning to get trims right. not going to put a ton of tuning effort into it untill he gets the 60's though cause that will call for a whole new tune.

so if this don't work and i need to pull the front cover off to check the timing set up, how bad would the motor shake if i took out the top gear that drives the balance shaft? we had a hard time getting it reinstalled and its kinda stiff to turn. its got to be lost hp right there.

Re: marine intake injector size

It's not going to run right with out that MAF being good... since it uses that more than the MAP for fueling the truck.
Get the MAF back working... and the Crank sensor sensing... Lol.. Those two will allow you to
get to the next step.
Boy... lots of problems... No wonder you've had such poor luck.
I'll send you the boost tune tomorrow from the shop.
~Scott

Correct the sensor problems before going any further.... That might solve everything.

Re: marine intake injector size

i know it, i'm going to do that tommorrow. i will let you know what happens. hopefully it will go well. what have people been doing to make the stock make work inplace of the boat one? can i buy that plug and just wire the three wires instead of 4? is that map a three wire with the forth one a temp sensor? if so how does it work the signal for that mabe manifold for ground? if so i could cut the wires from the maf (temp sensor only) and wire one to a terminal lug and put it on the bolt that holds the map down and hook the other to the sensor plug wire that goes to temp sensor portion.

ok i'm beat too many long days hope this makes since if not i will rewrite it tommorrow. my brain hurts.

Re: marine intake injector size

Maybe a little off topic, but how much pressure can the marine intake take? In my mind the plastic upper piece could fail under higher boost, couldn't it?

Re: marine intake injector size

The bottom of the marine intake is Cast iron and weighs a metric ton.

The top is made of Alluminum. (the stock automotive is plastic)

So there's really no limit for the Marine intake. :)

Re: marine intake injector size

Don't use the stock Marine intake MAP sensor... It has two sensors in one. (Map and IAT) Intake air temp.

All I did was use a Tee and plugged it in.

See this thread for some helpfull info. http://www.fullthrottlev6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50198

thats what i was getting at. it would be benificial to have the temp sensor in the manifold vise the maf. that way the computer knows true air temp. the temp in through the maf and the temp after being compressed, intercooled and a ton of meth sprayed in it are going to be different. but i will check out the thread. i need to tee in the evac anyways.

Re: marine intake injector size

ok so i did the maf new sensor checked map for leaks and it didn't help. idle seems ok but when you rev it, you can mash the peddle and let off then wait a second and then it will rev. there is a big delay and some times it even bogs. i've seen this before but i can't remember what it was.

Re: marine intake injector size

here is a good question. say the distributer was installed alittle off. wether it be retarded or advanced. couldn't i hook up hptuners scanner and take over timing control with vcm control's and try first retarding timing really far and then advanceing it far forward. this would be the same thing as moving the cap forward and back.

We do this with the GN's and there for if you notice in the bottom picture in the link I put there is my temp sensor just before the throttle body (after the IC) in the orange pipe. It sees the air temp of what it going into the engine.

I thought you checked the dist.phazing with #1TDC and rotor pointing at the cap's #1 spot.

Sounds like the good MAF helped.. Run the Scanner now and see where your fuel trims are.

Re: marine intake injector size

fwiw, i modified a spare distributor that i had, so that i could turn it like the older ones, and i had a scan tool under the hood, the timing stayed at 17 degrees no matter how much i turned it.

i mead i turned it a rediculus amount.....almost 180 degrees,.....and the computer would compensate!!

Re: marine intake injector size

I think it'll keep reading that number on the scan tool regardless. Were you referencing it with a timing light on the ballancer?

When I had ours apart I noticed that the junk that builds up on the cap posts were not in the center. So when I put it back together I slotted the hold down slightly to allign it to where it'll fire in the middle of the post instead of the side. That tells me that it's critical to have them lined up.

I"ll have to test that the next time I have one apart... put a timing light on and remove the dist. hold down bolt so I can turn it and see what happens on the laptop and what is going on down at the timing marker.
I did verify ours when I put it back together... I set the timing at 0 deg on the lap top in HPTuners (scanner) and then made sure that it was on the one mark they give you on that cover and they matched.

Re: marine intake injector size

i was using a the hptuners scanner. the auto hobby shop on base is closed on mondays and tuesdays and now for christmas and christmas eve. so when i can get my hands on a timming light i'm gonna try it out.

well i put a different distributer in and the cap is tight. i noticed on the old one that 4 of the post had perfect "strike points" but two of them had the whole post spotted up. i also noticed that the screws were too long also. long enough that it looks like they may have been tricking the cam sensor. it seems to idle good but it still has a miss while reving. and in the log it looks like the map is behind the throttle position and maf. so i'm wondering if the map has a vacuum leak. so i'm going to try what you did on yours.

the trims are all positive by the way. so i know its not too rich. but i wonder if i didn't flood it out a bit much before when the distributer was 180 out. i say this because i found tan looking oil on the crank sensor and the oil smells a touch like fuel. i changed the oil after the first warm up but maybe it didn't get all the crap out when i did it. the coolant is full it looks kinda funny but i think its because it had the rust problem they get when you add tap water to the orange coolant. he didn't change the heater core, radiator, and such so i think some of that mixed with the new coolant and made it look kinda funny. one thing is for sure it has a nice sound at idle. the problem right now seems to be you hit the gas and let out then it revs up. and in the log timing dips when you stuff it and when you let off it shoots back up as it revs.

i'll post the log so you can look at it. eerrrr maybe not doesn't look like i can so i will post it up on my thread over at hptuners forum.

Re: marine intake injector size

agian, i hate to sound like a broken record, but this is exactly what mine did when i installed straight up.

was totaly retarded advanced 2 degrees, and BAM!!!! hesatition gone!!

i chased my tail for months, untill i just went back to my gut feeling, and advanced the cam.

I guess I'll tell him to buy an adjustable timing set then. where is a good place to get one?

i ordered mine from jegs
cloyes makes the only one for a balance shaft engine that i know of. because of the balance shaft assembly you cant ga=et a double roller in there, so cloyes made it an oversize single roller. works great, and allows for 2 degrees + or - of advance.

for more advance, purchase offset pin bushings for the cam timing set.
