Meth injection idea.

Someone should develop a plate that bolts between the upper and lower manifold that injects methanol directly into each port. Just like a plate nitrous system on carbies...
That would rock.

I don't think that would give the methanol as much time to evaporate completely. However, if it turns out I'm wrong, it could be incorporated into a Phenolic spacer which would further cool the intake temps (a little).

I think you also want the IAT to see the temp drop. Isn't that located before the ports?!?!

Im thinking thats the the main idea of the meth is to lower IATS. It would be pointless to do this if you ask me.

I'm working on getting a nice little nitrous plate made for my Sy just like you've stated. I don't know if I would be able to use the same thing for meth because I don't know how the nitrous spray bars would do for the meth.

As far as the IAT issue would go, I know on the LS1's people use resistors to trick the IAT sensor, I would guess you could run a resistor hooked into a relay that would switch from a no resistor side to a resistor side to trick the IAT to seeing cooler temps when the meth is engaged.

not to hijack but i'd like to hear more about that nitrous plate you're having made jamnut.

Could you put the elbow in the air tract with nozzle pointing in towards the T-body or would it block to much air? When I tested mine I hooked up a leaf blower to push air threw the IC and see how it ran. Well it shot mist up to the top lip of the IC and formed water droplets. So I thought if you faced the nozzle in it may spray better but will it block to much air?

Here is a link to video of test run with blower.

Once we get it together I'll post pix. I know a guy that does custom spray bar setups & we were just going to machine a plate & install the spray bars these are NX spray bars, but the work is not going to be done by NX. I want to do this instead of some sort of fogger setup or other types of DP setups such as the NXL nozzles. I know that I won't get good nitrous distribution through the intake plenum, so I want to use a plate for better distribution.

I am installing the 5.0/ 5.7L wet 100-150 horse system on my truck. I havent heard of anyone running it and wanted to give it a shot. the plate is on already, but IDK when I am actually going to test it. I am getting it on a dyno to test it, and starting off with as small of a shot as possible. I think it will make too much power and will have to be reserved for the strip. Plate did bolt up perfect though.

Re: Meth injection idea.

FWIW, and IMHO I think if you have good atomization of the methanol, the runners offer plenty of room to cool the charge. Plus, its not just the methanol evaporting and reducing heat in the intake manifold, it surely helps fight detonation in the cylinder when the piston comes up and pressure rises. I dont think the methanol being in the upper plenum is a neccessity... The point isn't to make the sensor see lower temps, the point is to CREATE lower temps which actually inhibits detonation, meaning more boost safely. Not that the sensor seeing the lower temps is a bad thing, but like someone posted above, if the sensor is what your worried about, wire in a resistor...

you have to remember the ecm is pulling timing out based on IATs as well....
if the sensor sees lower temps it wont pull out as much advance..
'' its not nice to fool mother nature...''
fooling the ecm is like lieing... eventually you get caught
any way that you can lower the temps and let the ecm see it is a good thing
granted a lot of the anti knock properties happen at very high temps

I think if the leaf blower pushed 150* air that the droplets on the IC won't be a problem.

Re: Meth injection idea.

If you move the IAT to in front of the turbo, or just aft of the turbo, it will give more acurate readings of air temp, as the hot alluminum around it does heat soak the air a little.

not worried about the back cylinders running leaner than the front?

doing this wont show the true temps in the intake... the sensor is really just
a themo resister at the end of 2 small wires inside the protective "basket".
Any heat transfer from the upper intake will have to travel through those 2
small wires to affect the actual sensing part of the sensor. The upper intake
will cool off rapidly as soon as the engine is force fed the cooled air through
the upper intercooler.
