God damn, thats the guy I JUST pposted about. Scuba Steve? Is he up there in Denver? I read his post when he pulled those numbers, kinda made me want to give up on racing

Yeah thats Scuba Steve. He's in the Springs so you better watch out for a wingless silver STi! :D The dyno numbers he put down were at Revolution where their numbers read about un-corrected. My 425 corrected dyno at Mac was about 380 at Revolution. He did break his engine at PMI not long ago but he's building a stronger setup than what he had before.

Here is his comments from youtube: ScubaSteveSTi (2 weeks ago) "AP V2 launch control set at 6500 and FFS set at 7200. I'm in the process of rebuilding the motor now, Axis stage 3, built heads with cams all on eco friendly E85;). Look for 550+whp, 8500rpm redline and hopefully some mid 10's next season. :) "

How are you going to verify that he's running pump gas? Smell his tank?

When I hear people talk about giving someone 3 car lengths, how do you measure that on the street? If someone cheats how could you tell?

Run what you brung and leave at the same time, ON THE STREET.

IF your at the track you can give someone a 2 second start or whatever. Those things can only be done fairly at a track.

I wouldn't want to have to trust someone to use pump gas or NOT to use nitrous even if there wasn't money on it.

Pump gas = Make him fill up in front of you

Car lengths = measured by having people stand at the front and rear bumpers, and moving the car the appropriate number of spots

Nitrous = Up to the other party to prove it's disconnected, or prove you sprayed

That's easy shit, dude. We've been doing stuff like that on the street for years :)

BTW, I'd say the original poster is in over his head. If this is for money, I'd jump the start HARD and pray he chases. A chase is a race, after all ;)

Re: My sy vs a 520awhp STI this weekend?

like stated above make him fill up in front of you with pump gas and make sure your launch is perfect... then pray he doesn't know how to drive the car

should be a good race

The accelerometer in the older base model G Tech can only read 1 G Force.
Our trucks can pull MORE than 1 G at launch so as soon as you launch its already miscalculating because you max out the range of the accelerometer.

The G Tech PRO can read higher, 1.4 or 1.6 G stands out for some reason, but the PRO will be more accurate in a vehicle that launches hard.

I agree, but I guess the race is for fun so it doesn't matter who wins.

You can make good power on E85.

Has anybody on here been doing SyTy E85 work?

s445,
It sounds like you haven't taken it to the track to see what it can do. What is stopping you?

Well I just got the truck recently completed from a year long build. Its now at a fine tuning point where I can make wot runs. I've been going back and forth w Nolan from Campbell Automotive who has been doing the tuning over the past few months through email.

The major setback is I live in Long Island N.Y. and I'm at least 3 hours from a track such as Etown or Atco which is currently closed for winter. Thats why Im stuck with just the Gtec for now

FWIW, I believe Atco is open on Sundays year round, weather permitting.

Ok, ill have to look into that. I thought they were closed till march or april. I do remember someone saying you could rent the track during the winter but to make it worth going for the amount you would have to find like 10-12 people? that was a unreliable source.

It should be a good race, assuming your trap speed as given by the G-Tech is accurate. His 520whp in a 3300lb car with a 150lb driver should net traps of around 124-125mph. If those numbers were from a Dynojet, I bet his trap speed would be a little lower.

I'd go for it.

Rodent comes from a popular K5 Blazer project I built 5 years ago called Potent Rodent on off-road.com and still own. Plus I'm a huge fan of SBC and BBC engines which will soon be replacing the 4.3 in the Ty along with a huge turbo. ;)

The small-block Chevy came out in 1955 and was labeled a "mouse." One assumes the diminutive name referenced the new engine's smaller size/displacement relative to Chevy's larger V-8s of the time, as in "mouse motor." The mouse was followed a decade later by the now-familiar big-block Chevy, which was originally nicknamed the "porcupine" because its canted and splayed valves protruded from the cylinder heads in a quill-like array of angles. Not long afterward "rat" caught on for the same engine, and it seems logical that the hot-rodding — if not biologically fine-tuned — mind would see a rat as a large mouse. Over the years porcupine has all but disappeared, but rat has stuck to this day.

An elephant is the original Chrysler hemi. One look at that engine's huge valve covers and general overall bulk leave little doubt where its name came from.

Re: My sy vs a 520awhp STI this weekend?

I tested my 1st generation Gtec at the track. The time was 100% correct but the mph was off on the gtech by 5-6mph.
So you are probably running 11.6 @ 116mph.
What does your build consist of?
