Does anyone know the part number for the valve guide seals(I want stock seal # please) and also the the little black ring that goes in the second ring down from the tip of the valve stem? I can't find even a picture of it anywhere. Thanks!

Blake,

The "little black ring" IS the valve seal.. If you really want GM stuff you can get them from the dealer by just asking for valve seals for a 4.3 V6. Chain stores (advance/autozone) carry em too..

Only other thing I can think of that youre after is the valve guide(s).

Here is the GM part# none the less (its the same for all sytys 91-93)..

3835333 intake/exhaust

Well, there is the rubber(viton I believe)piece with the metal ring that goes around it and the spring loaded clamp on it that actually slides down over the valve stem and onto the valve guide. That is the valve seal that I need the part number for.

Now there are two grooves in the valve stem of the valve itself. The first groove is where the keepers sit to hold the valve in place. The SECOND groove had this worn out looking ring in it that snapped when I took the valves out. This little bitty black ring I need the part number for also. Most aftermarket valves don't even have a second groove so most people probably won't know what I'm talking about. GM performance has the stock sized valves with necked down stem with both grooves that I'll be buying so I need the little rings. Maybe the parts guy will know what I'm talking about(not likely). Sometimes I wonder where they find these guys

Blake,

Hold up man... Got some info for you..

The black ring that goes in the second groove on the valve is the STOCK/from the factory valve seal. I looked a little closer this time and you are correct. Looks like GM used both a umbrella style AND O ring seals at the same time on the intake valve (least they got something right for a change) GM lists a lower "umbrella" style seal for the intake valves ONLY. Here is the GM part#

14037715 (.015 o.s.)
14037716 (.030 o.s.)

About the valves with only one groove.... Unless youre using some exotic stuff most valves are cut for the keeper and the o ring seal. Even the necked down valves. Jegs/summit has tons of em for sale. The only valves I know of that have a groove for the keepers only and not a seal is hard core/high dollar/exotic race stuff like NASCAR/Indy/etc use.

What kinda valves are you after??

A few more details needed on what youre doing and I may be able to help.

I found the part numbers and the correct names to call them.
12511890 Valve Stem Seal Kit
This late model V8 seal kit includes 8 P/N 460483 intake seals, 8 exhaust seals, and 16 P/N 10214034 oil stem seals.

P/N 460483 Positive intake and exhaust seal(does NOT move up and down with the valve like umbrellas do)this one has ring around top and spring band to go around opening of guide.

P/N 10214034 Oil stem seal(the thing in the second groove)

It's about $25 for the whole kit.

Sorry, thought you wanted part #s for a V6.. Yes, SB stuff is the same part but Id bet GM has a diff part# for it and to avoid confusion I didnt bother to mention the SB parts.

GM lists individual parts for v6 and v8 as the same part numbers in the sources I found. Sounds like confusion over valve stem seal(which I've never heard of anyone replacing)/valve guide seal/oversized valves. The kit has it's own part number because it is specifically for v8. Couldn't find one for a v6. Ended up using Clevite valve STEM seals. Wanted to buy the Viton valve guide seals from Summit but they were for a valve guide boss way smaller than mine. The L-35 has like .522" valve guide boss diameter. If you know of a source for viton valve guide seals that doesn't require machining of the bosses I would really appreciate the help.

Wanted to point out something from your earlier post. GM doesn't use umbrella seals. Umbrella seals go up and down with the valve. They use positive stop seals. They have spring loaded clamps that hold them securely to the boss. Wish I could figure out how to post pictures on here. It would be sooo much easier:)
Thanks,
Blake

Can anyone answer this? Been searching for this and I can't find a definitive answer.

I did use ss72530 intake and ss72876 exhaust but I need to re-do them and really want to make sure.

Re: Need part number for valve seals

What people used to do is use the standard round ring on small block chevys and also put the ford umbrella type seals on the intakes or exhausts too and it would fix the puff of smoke in the morning thing. Kinda compensates for worn valve guides. Are you sure that is not what someone did? It used to work great.
