need some advise; and code 51

During the fall, I installed some 50lb injectors and Wallers version of the 50lb Ultimate. The truck has a TE-61 with atr dp and wg, 3K stall, built trans and all general sy/ty reliability mods. Also installed a two stage alky system with aquamist jets.

The truck idles very smooth and drives well. However when we rev it a little, she puffs a little black smoke. We had Waller lean the idle fueling out about 25%, but it still acts the same. The o2's act very wierd in datamaster. At idle, they just stay around 850 or so and don't fluctuate at all. Datamaster shows almost no crosscounts of the o2 at all. Since the chip is open loop, the o2 sensor is out of the equation, right? I have checked for vac leaks everywhere and found none. Also replaced the vac lines with silicone. I don't really have a clue about the black smoke. checked the plugs to see if they had any crap on them, but they were fine. any ideas?

I also got a code 51 last week, which is eprom failure or computer failure. I don't think the smoke is attributed to the code 51 since the truck had been showing signs of the smoke prob for 3 months before the code was thrown.

I also might add that the WOT performance is very good. I have datamaster files of 22 psi with only 3* of knock with the alky. like i said the truck runs great, i just do not know what is causing the smoke. Should i continue to have the idle leaned out? anyone else had this prob? am i understanding correctly when i say that the o2 values are ignored since the chip is open loop? guess i need a wide band to see what the af ratio is at idle. thanks.

Check to make sure the ribbon cable on the ultimate is not crimped, pinched or even bent. I had similar problems with my O2 just falling to zero for no reason causing my truck to run lean. Found the problem to be the ribbon cable was looped, not quite pinched but enough to cause problems.
