Need some help here

So trans is in and shifts great now. But I slam the gas and trucks spools very slowly then as a I reach around 5k when it's supposed to shift it seems to cut ignition and it did that like 3 times before shifting to 2nd and it shifted smoothly and perfectly into 3rd from second. Don't have a scantool yet and hoping to get one soon but until then is there anything I can do or check for this problem?
Edit: This was with no boost launch. Forge waste gate, AEM boost controller

Pm'd

You should at least downshift manually from overdrive into 3rd but 2nd gear is preferable when launching.

Not a tranny expert, but it sounds like the TV cable isn't adjusted right and / or a governor problem (like DaveP said). If the TV cable is the problem, it can take out a transmission fairly quick because it controls fluid pressure as well as shift points. Did you do anything to the governor or valve body when you rebuilt the tranny? If you want it to shift at 5k rpm, you'll have to get the fuel cut set higher on the chip.

If the turbo is slow spooling and the engine is cutting out. Do yourself a favor and don't go into boost until you have scan tool. It may save your engine.

No we just cleaned up the valve body and made sure the governor wasn't stuck. The rest of the trans got new clutches and some other upgrades I can't remember. I have all the receipts and paperwork at my house. Would the fuel cut off be different in every gear?

Re: Need some help here

I would agree that you really need a scantool.

I have a nice older laptop with a good battery loaded with Datamaster, tunerpro and everything a syty owner should have on the laptop including Tooky's guide to Datamaster. The package also includes the aldl cable and a LC1 wideband new in the box so you can truly see what your truck is doing and even post the files so that others can help you figure out what is happening with your truck. Ill let it go for $250 and then we can really help you by analyzing the logs vs guessing...

But DaveP is very knowledgeable and his advise is a very good guess, he accurate over 99% of the time...

The rpm limiter is the same for every gear. For the stock chip its ~4700rpm, aftermarket chip are pretty much always set higher. It could over boosting in 1st year but isn't in 2nd because it has a chance to pull a bunch of timing because the motor has major detonation and the ECM doesn't have a chance to react fast enough in first. With looking at scan tool that is just a blind guess.

Is the tach fluttering or jumping?

It is a turbo tweak 3 bar chip. I didn't order it and I have the invoice with it that says what he asked to have on the chip but doesnt say anything about an rpm limiter or fuel cut off. And yes the tach flutters at idle. Thank you very much for your input. I definitely need to get scantool quickly. I'm starting to lean towards the detonation as the problem.

Re: Need some help here

How much boost are trying to run?
If over 14.5lbs, then you must upgrade to a 3 bar MAP sensor.
Stock truck, upgrades or ??? Some info would help.
Stock fuel pump is barely adequate for around 15lbs boost. Boosting slowly could be a boost leak or too rich or too lean. Careful.

This is everything I was told. I've been double checking everything I can.
Turbo tweak 3 bar chip 92 octane
Gutted cat with 3 inch cat back exhaust
37# Lucas injectors red stripe
Forge waste gate with 14 to 16 psi spring
Aem Tru boost controller/gauge.
Port matched exhaust on turbo
Taylor wires old will be replaced
NGK UR5
Hot wired intercooler pump
Edit: stock air intake with AEM filter.

Good move. Make sure ignition components are up to par.

One thing I do always, is check for spark arcing off the wires to metal parts and around spark plugs. Try to keep them separated and away from metallic surfaces. Check for that in complete darkness. Spark arcing could be caused by oil and debris accumulated around spark plugs, gap to big, lean mixture or faulty wires. While some of it is considered normal, it could be detrimental to the operation of the engine when out of control.
You might want to look into the hot wired intercooler pump as it might already be programmed into the chip.

That's would be amazing but I don't get paid till Monday. That's a screaming deal though. When I get paid, if it's still available, I would love to make that deal.

I'll be sure to check all that. I've been covering the basic tuneup since I got the transmission in and working.

Re: Need some help here

Made some progress. Bypassed the AEM Tru boost and let the wastegate have complete control. Took it out and tested it and was slower to do lower boost but it pulled all the way through 1st to 2nd with no cutting out or hesitations at all. Spiked at 18 and settled at 14.

I have that laptop, aldl and wideband combo waiting for you! :) It would be nice to see what your logs show...

Tach Flutter

Tach Flutter

And yes the tach flutters at idle.

The tach usually moves a little while idling, but does it jump big variations like 400-500 rpm while idling or accelerating? The tach should move smoothly up the RPM's as you are accelerating. The famous tach flutter, as we call it, is a problem with the ignition system. The ignition system is extremely important for a good running Syclone or Typhoon.

As others have said, with the boost that high and no scan tool, turn the boost down till you can look at things. Keep posting questions, lots of knowledge on the board to help you get it running well.

No big jumps on the tach like you're describing but the wires are bad. The number 2 plug wire is swollen pretty bad and looks terrible. So wires and cap is next. Disconnecting the boost controller helped a lot. Runs a lot smoother when I'm in the boost. This weekend will be the wires fuel pump and cap and rotor and I hopefully I will see some more improvements.
