new guy with engine tap

i had my sy motor rebuilt around 10k ago with forged pistons and rods, now i have a tap, it started tapping when i had some knock at hi rpm, once i heard the knocking i let off and it now sounds like a valve tap, i pulled the valve covers and ran the motor, didnt look like i was getting much oil to the heads on either side,so i replaced to oil pump with a melling hv, put it all back together and i have more oil but still not enough, i adjusted the rocker arms and still theres a tap, i put a stethoscope on the rocker studs and found a strange noise coming from the drivers side closest to firewall, almost like a scraping sound, any ideas>? im hoping its a collapsed lifter but ive heard it could be much worse like a bad cam bearing or maybe i wiped a rod bearing
the turbo bearings went after i had the rebuild so i rebuilt the turbo but never cleaned the pan, i found some shavings that are the same color as the turbo bearings, im hoping thats all they are but im not sure.
has anyone else had a problem like this? thanks for any info in adnvance
yours truly
the new guy

you might check your distributor gear, for the hell of it....just in case you're not running a hydro roller setup for some reason....just a thought...

Re: new guy with engine tap

inside the oil pan, bottom near the drain, nothing caught in the screen. seems like brass, yellow metal. ive also just noticed my trans isnt shifting into and out of gear correctly, just started, i figure its just the cable. wont go into park or reverse. i looked at the cable and can see the boot is rotted, and its coiled back. thanks for the info
