New Source for Throttle Body bore & Bearing upgrade

Some of you may be familiar with the guys that were boring our twin 48mm TB out to a twin 52.
They are on ebay under the username xtremefi.

Well after doing some looking around, I found another guy who is not as big as those guys and charges less.

xtremefi charges $179 + return shipping to bore your TB, bearing the TB shaft, and install larger butterflies and smaller diameter tb shaft to increase flow.

This guy is only charging $140 shipped. You supply your own TB.
I am sending mine out this week and will let you know how he does.
He said he just finished a Sy TB right before I contacted him.

I think this is a great alternative to buying an oversized TB, but still opening up the stock restrictions while eliminating the annoying leak at the TB shaft that almost all of us experience.

Let me see if Waller is on his toes.

Hey John, do you remember what the bore size is on my Holley TB? I don't think I ever asked David...

(didn't mean to steal your thread, sorry)

I can vouch for this guy (Matt); he does good work. He is, or was, local to me here in TX. I didn't have mine bored out, just reshafted w/ the oversize bearings etc. I didn't feel the extra 4mm bore size would do much on a stock-ish truck. IIRC, it was only ~$75 too.

Just a head's up for those w/ high mile trucks that only want a TB rebuild.

Not really sure if it'd make a night/day improvement, but here is what xtremefi claims.

"52mm LT1/TPI - 750 CFM (versus 630 CFM stock)"
so a 120CFM or 16% increase over stock.

Another quote from xtremefi's FAQ
"The twin 52mm throttle body will support motors making upwards for 460hp"

This is surely not a mod for the all out effort, but it does address the leaky TB shaft issue while increasing potential airflow.

He just did mine and I should have it back by friday. The guy is great. He also does custom upper plates in aluminum for 36$. If someone can host I will post pics of my TB.

I can host your pics and I'm very interested in doing this myself. I pressurized my system and that damn throttle body shaft leaks like a sieve! Would like to see what that "custom upper plate" looks like

Re: New Source for Throttle Body bore & Bearing upgrade

I will send you a pic tonight. The TB came in. It looks great. nice work on it. Be even opened the air foil to match. The top plate looks nice. it was not exactly what I was thinking but it looks good. He even put new bolts on it. So for 205$ I got the TB opened up to 52mm, bearings put on it, cleaned, a new upper plate, a tpi air foil and return shipping. It was gone for a total of 8 days.

Re: New Source for Throttle Body bore & Bearing upgrade

Nice. I already have a composite air foil in mine...not sure if that would work with this upgrade. I may just end up buying a new 58mm alum. throttle body from TPIS:

http://www.tpis.com/index.php?modul...Throttle+Bodies

Expensive, but has an integrated air foil and probably no leaks like the stocker. We have an L98 throttle body, correct?

The 52mm tbs are on sell for $230. But i don't think they will work because of
the linkage?

Have you received your throttle body back?

I got mine back as well.

Looks just like his except I bead blasted the outside of mine before sending it so mines cleaner.

The last step of this mod is going to require port matching the upper intake to your new TB size.
Remember the upper is machined for a twin 48mm, so there will be a "lip" where the bores mismatch effectively reducing the overall effect if not remedied.
