New VIN based on Syclone Drive Train?

Long story short (More detail in my newbie post).

Is it possible to get a new title on a Syclone even though it has an S-10 cab? I'd like for the new project "Toy" to be a Syclone and not an S10

The S10 title has been turned in many years ago and the truck was built from a wrecked Syclone. As soon as I can get the bed off then I'll get the original VIN.

Thanks

Out of curiosity...what's the VIN number on the cab that's on it now? And which part of KY are you from?

I'm at work but I'll have that today after work. I'm in Lawrenceburg Ky. According to Mike (Friend who owns the truck) It was titled as an 85 S10.

All Syclone drivetrain.

My guess is it will be pretty hard,if not impossible, to get a new title issued that had SYCLONE on it, short of doing a frame off restoration.

If not it's no big deal as it will just be another Toy anyway.

I'm not up to speed on the title deals but I'll find out.

Thanks

I would check with your local sheriffs dept. before I did much work. It has gotten a lot harder to get new vins since cash for clunkers. My guess is you will have to supply invoices for a rebuild and apply for a new vin. I dont think you will be able to get the s10 title or the syclone brought back from the dead. Start with the sheriffs dept. not with county clerk unless you know someone that works there.

This can be a very sticky, long drawn out process. Swap the cab. Swap the vin. tag. Register it as a reconstructed vehicle. Submit both titles to DMV. If you dont have both titles. You are SOL. DMV will issue new salvaged/reconstructed title.

As far as I know, both titles are MIA and/or turned into the DMV as "Junk"

Your best option is to buy a clean titled 91 sonoma and transfer salvaged parts to that one. Make a clone. Salvaged Tital Sy and Clean titled Copy are worth about the same in my book when it comes to resale. Clean titled vehicles sell faster and have less red tape to deal with. M2C

Was speaking with a friend who has done this type of thing before with a mid 70s Chrysler that he put back together as one of the cop cars from the Blues Brothers.

Turns out that one of our friends that we went to school with runs the County Clerks office.

Legally the only way is to buy a syclone cab/title and move everything over to it. Which is probably not as hard to find as you think.

Any other way will be skating on not being done legally and have issues later.

Agreed, any vin swaping is going is hurt the value. I would rather have a clone than a vin swapped Syclone that could run into legal issue if the wrong person ever reports it.
