Newbie!

Ok, I just found me a syclone black/black.. I'm not sure of a production number but i was wondering exactly how many there are in production?

I havent purchased my sy yet but hopefully I can sell my 94 s-10 and get financed the the sy i found was black/black not sure of the year.. but only had 7000 original miles no dents or scratches and has been sitting for 8-10 yrs and a local bike shop.. let me know if it's a good buy for 22,000$! thanks..

Re: Newbie!

I would check to make sure that the engine still runs correctly. The low mile SyTys can have a whole nest of bugs ready to jump out at you due to the time that they have been sitting around and not being used.

FIRST, I would use the search feature, located north-north east on the board with a small arrow next to the word "search" :p

Second, find out how long its been sense it has been running. Are you for sure its for sale, or are you just going up to ask about it?

Lastly, post where you live at. Maybe someone can come look at it with you. (or buy it before you can get to it.. :p :p )

And to give you a hint. They were only Black on black. Only made in 91. (with the exception of a few for 92, which I highly doubt its a 92 ) and the truck number just incase you didnt know how to tell what number it was, is the last 4 numbers on the vin.

Re: Newbie!

The engine runs and they start it ever week or so.. im not sure tho i live in jackson michigan.. if u live around here and would like to check it out with me let me know.. but when we check it out i'm going with my money so nobody can buy it out from under me :p... it has been sittin in this "Undisclosed" location for 8-10 years and nobody has picked it up so i dunno.. PM me if you'd like to check it out with me.. still has stock tonneau cover, and is totally mint.. i just about died when the salesman pulled up the car cover...

Re: Newbie!

Alright.. first question now..

What do you plan on doing to the truck?

I'd hate to see you chop up a low miled Sy to beat the shit out of it everyday. That would be wrong.

Re: Newbie!

I honestly wouldn't buy it if you don't have the money to fix any possible problems. While it is pretty low mileage, it's not fit as a daily driver being that low on the miles and having sat that long. There were only around 3000 Syclones made in 91. Have you ever gone for a ride in one? ;) If I were you, I'd go find a typical mileage Sy in the 30k - 70k range if you are looking for a daily driver. Definately have one of the experienced SyTy freaks in your area with you. Some of these trucks run perfect with high mileage, some run like shit with super low mileage.

Re: Newbie!

You guys wouldn't have to be worried about me beatin the hell outta it or chopping it to pieces... I've always been interested in it and would just use my talon as a daily driver with this as a weekend cruiser.. seemed in perfect condition.. but if there's a syty fella around here to take a look at her with me than he is welcome.. and even if i don't get it.. atleast i helped somebody else get their hands on this low mileage, mint condition beast... I've never actually ridden in one but I sat in that one today and it's an automatic. not sure if that's all of them but i don't think so... all i would care is if the body is mint.. but with 7k miles.. why not buy it even if she doesn't run perfect ya kno? maybe i can talk it down to 18 or so since it has been sitting for 10 years..

Re: Newbie!

They only came as automatics sad to say but I think it works out for the best. Wait until you get to experience a boost launch. If you can handle something going wrong or the maintenance, I say go for it then. Try and talk him down. As long as the title is clean and the motor isn't FUBAR, chances are you could make most of your money back even if you change your mind.

Re: Newbie!

I've heard of this truck before.
I think someone mentioned Holiday Power Sports.

I can go look at it with you if you need. I should have my truck out on the road this weekend I hope.

Re: Newbie!

there are three things that you need to remember about SyTy's:Brakepads, ball joints & tires. these three things you will be replacing alot, as these trucks go through them pretty quick. some things you may want to check are how well the tranny shifts, any noise or vibration from the front end or X-case. one thing you may want to do if you buy the truck is hotwire the IC pump (its a good kind of hotwiring) so that its on whenever the key is in the "run" position.(obviously this dosent apply to ours, but i heard it makes quite a difference) good luck with the Syclone, and post lots of pics, even if you dont get it!!

those are the last 3 things I would worry about. Ive changed my brake pads once in 5 years, ive changed my ball joints once in 5 years and ive changed my tires twice in 5 years.

Ive replaced shocks more than all of those things and ive changed transmissions more than all of those things combined

man, the transmission bit is a kick in the head!! I hope you have better luck with this one:tup:

Re: Newbie!

Yup, it is the one at Holiday powersports.. Have you heard anything bad about it?? I'm not sure.. I reallllly wanna get it but if i do i have to get my dime that i currently have in a more sellable condition cause right now she needs some finish body work, paint, rims, and some different lowering components.. mostly need to fix the shaved door handles cause i bought a cheap kit (big mistake) i'll go to autoloc this time.. but yea if you wanna go even check it out with me for the rest of the site maybe we can get it sold for the benefit of the syty owners on this site.. I'll take my digital camera and we can make him let us take her for a drive.. looked like the front driverside tire was a lil flat and i don't know if the battery is dead or nething but if we get them 20 grand i'm sure they'll let us drive it around...

Re: Newbie!

Welcome to the syty "cult" :p ! Not to scare ya off but you should read this first. Even though the truck is low mileage, it is bound to have some issues. Wade is a good guy and you will be in good hands. If he gives it the nod, you will be golden  .

When ever you do go over there to see it, get some pics of it and post them on here.

These aren't the top three things on my list. Tires wear like any other vehicle and we don't spin them off like most other Sports vhehicles. Brake pads last 25K miles are cheap. Ball Joints (and the steering components) do wear out.

Of the top of my head, the top three on my list to remember about SyTy's would be knock retard, tranny, & motor mounts. Honorable mentions would be front suspension, propshaft & ignition.

Re: Newbie!

I guess ours is a special case then. the lower drivers side ball joint is toast,(i'm guessing from the drop) and the tires are trash at 65,000 miles. brakepads are pretty good though :) . our friend with #156 told us that those are the big 3 as far as his Sy's and Ty are concerned.

Re: Newbie!

I didn't say that SyTy don't go through ball joints. Typically at 50k miles most could use a front end rebuild, at 75k they are trashed. I would rather do balljoints than motor mounts, chasing down knock retard (which can lead to ruined motor), or rebuilding a tranny.

Re: Newbie!

It helps to know a whole lot when looking/buying. The minor issues on these are endless, and alot of those little things can turn into big ones in a hurry. Once you buy, expect to be paying at least about a grand in fixing up some of the little bits like hoses, plugs, wires, fluids, ect... and still leaving some aside for if you find something 100miles later that you didn't notice on the test drive.

Just finished buying mine, and I'm going to be spending about $2000 in repairs right off the bat... of course most of that is in cladding and painting said cladding.

Best advice I can give to a new owner, get anything fixed that doesn't seem "right". A little wiggle here or clunk there could mean something important is failing... and it's much easier(not to mention cheaper) to fix it rather than wait and see what else that part breaks when it finally goes out. It takes a little time to get used to the little nuances on these trucks, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
