No oil pressure **UPDATE**

Yesterday the typhoon passed emissions, so today I put on the EGR block off plate that I bought from the dealership. Everything came off and went on fine, I plugged the vac line that went to it with a screw securily. I drove it arround the block and I did notice that the oil pressure looked to be about 10psi higher than normal, but it seemed to drive alot smoother. So my women and I decided to take it to my parents house. We were on the freeway for about 20 minutes when the car stalled out. I pulled over to the side of the road and checked to make sure all the ignition items were still plugged in, yes. I then checked the oil, oil looks fine, not milky and there is enough in there. I start the ty back up and the after market oil guage starts at 40 psi and then drops to zero in about three seconds. Did my oil pump go out? Anyway to tell without taking it out? Mabe my oil filter colapsed? What else should I look for with not having any oil pressure?

It might just be sending unit thats bad.

I started it after it sat for about two hours. It started right up and idled for a couple of minutes. Then as soon as I tried to rev it, it died. It seems to be temperature related. Or mabe when it has to much oil pressure (over 45psi), it dies.

oil pressure shouldnt make it die... unless it is seizing up due to lack of pressure, but you would hear the bottom end clanking around.. probably just a bad gauge or sender.

Mabe I didn't do something correctly when I did the EGR delete. I disconnected the two bolts and took out the EGR. I made a gasket that covered the whole EGR delete plate and put that on. I then put a big screw into the vacuum line that went into the EGR. What I also supposed to unplug the electrical cable that went to the little black box that the EGR vacuum line connects to? Because if I was supposed to, I didn't.

My plan of action is to take off the oil filter and inspect. A buddy of mine has to use the KnN filters because the regualar ones colapse under higher psi. I will also try and take the filter appart and inspect for metal. I guess I am no longer thinking that it's oil pressure issue, but there definately is some problem that makes the Typhoon stall out. Once it warms up, the less it runs. Vacuum pressure? Electrical? Ignition? Sensors?

What else should I do.

you want to unplug the egr motor, so that the computer is not telling it to activate the EGR.. B/c the EGR will no longer be responding like it should, you will get a check engine light.. however i dont think it has anything to do with your oil pressure problem...

I decided today that it might not be oil related problem. I checked the oil filter and it wasn't colapsed, and I unplugged the EGR sender, but to no avail. The ty will start and idle fine, but when attempting to throttle, it dies. It also will die faster the warmer it gets. I am going to attach a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow to make sure that I am getting the correct amount of pressure. Then I plan on ohming out the spark plug wires, Mabe a wire got stuck on the exhaust manifold while I was messing with the EGR delete. Anything else to check?

Alway check and re-check the area you last worked around.
Check the distributor, check the vacuum lines, check the coil, relays on the firewall......

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that low indicated oil psi does infact affect how or if our stock fuel pump runs........my oil pressure sender (the one across back under the distributor) was making my stock oil gauge flutter when I first bought my 92 phoon and anytime the oil gauge needle would dip down to zero and back up, I would get a distinct miss......replaced the oil sender and all was good thereafter.....just a thought......

I agree that there is no reason why it would only idle if it's oil pressure.

I'd also agree that it must be something that was maybe an accident during your recent mods.

While I'd love to help (got your messages), I'm really busy as of late and have absolutely no time. I'm working 2 jobs right now to finance the mods on my truck while it sits around collecting dust yet again.

Today, 8-23-05 I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to make sure I was getting fuel to the rail, and I am getting great pressure. I inspected the spark plug wires, which have less than 1000 miles on them, and no burn marks or discoloring. I disconnected the brown wire with the black stripe to see if my problem was timing related, and it's not. I checked the vacuum lines in the back of the engine, they all look new and secure without leaks.

Recap:
My typhoon will start up and run fine cold, but once the engine starts to warm up, the ty will sputter and die. No knock, no loss of pressure that I can find. What can cause this madness??

Tomorrow after work I plan on putting the EGR valve back in. If it works, I'm going to be mad. If it doesn't work, I am probably going to loose my temper. I am tired of loosing sleep over this and I just want to know the cause.

its possible, the oil pressure switch is tied in with the ecm power and fuel pump power,a bad oil sender can blow ecm fuses and in this case maybe stall the motor,it might be shorting to ground when it goes to zero causing it to short the ecm out ,just a thought try replacing it .

try figuring this one out..... my truck lost all oil pressure , but still continued to run.

shouldnt the oil pressure sender cut power to the fuel pump at 0 psi???

the lower end was making a low thud.

Fuel pressure stays high, with all the vacuum lines hooked up, it idles at 50psi and once it stalls out, the fuel pressure gauge still says 50psi.

there is a checkvalve in there..can you actually hear the feulpump running while it stall?

supersports 10 it woul only do it if it shorted to ground the switch can go bad but dosent mean that every time it will short to ground,just most of the time it will and blow a ecm fuse

i agree with cloneman, azty. you need to replace your oil pressure switch. if it shorts to ground it will most likely blow the fuse and show max oil pressure. seems alot of people have been replacing the oil pressure switch.

Today, 8-24-04 I put the EGR valve back on, checked all my fuses, rechecked my spark plug wires and attachments, vacuum lines, oil and water levels... and I still have the same problem.

I can start the typhoon cold and it will run about 30 seconds at idle perfectly. Then for about 5 seconds it will miss/spudder and then die. The more times I try this, the less time it runs. If I try and accelerate, it spudders and dies.

Tomorrow, I hope to get a new oil sending unit from checker... but I guess it depends on price and install. I am officially broke and ofcourse my hydrolic jack died on me today. Its not been a good week.
