Not my truck, but a kill none the less

A group of guys I used to hang out w/on Sat nights would meet at a local BK parking lot till the weee hours of the morning (2 am ish).

One of the guys there knew just how badly I wanted a TY and told me he bought one.

So one night he pulls up in it and walks over to the group and held the keys right out in front of me and said to the group "Who wants to take it out for a run?" I snatched those keys quicker then grasshopper could grab the pebble from sense's hand.

Took it out to the highway (U.S.52) that runs through town (Lafayette IN- home of GN'R front man Axle Rose) and came to a stop light in front of an AutoZone and what should pull up beside me???? A Ford Lightning. The guy was giving that engine all sorts of hell.

So I put my left foot on the break and push in on the gas till the turbo psi wouldn't go higher, by that he knew I was willing, willing to kick his ass. That light went green and I let off the break and smashed the gas and that's all there was to him. He was trying to no avail to keep up. He turned off before the next light.

I got so lucky that night to live out a dream i had wanted to live out. A bit of a fantasy I would say.

Isn't it a great feeling? When I went to KS. to buy mine, I saw 7-8 lightnings, on the way home not a one! There are 2 lightnings here in Barrie, but they look the other way when Im on the street!

Nice kill. Kind of odd though that for your first time you were able to get max boost w/o pushing through the brakes or even knowing how to really launch the truck. Was this truck stock?

i think he died back in the 90s, some guy with the same name formed a band with the same name but has nothing similar to the old one

In no order,

It was stock.

The boost I got out of it only went to 7 psi w/the break launch method. It might've been my 1st time driving one, but not my 1st time racing someone. I know how to launch. I can get around a road course very well. Just wish there was one near me.

Yea it found its way back to BK, a few hours later but it made it back. They said I left "pecker tracks" all over the inside. What can I say??? I was excited.

I still plan on getting one some day, but not for a while still. Where I work we just laid off 40% of our work force. I'm waiting for the econemy to stabelize.

My mom is good friends w/Axles step dad. I've managed to get some neat items from the original GN'R band. Before Axle was a major ass I would talk about knowing his dad all the time. Now I've grown out of that stage and well, Axle's an assbag. The only reason I worded it in the 1st place was to put you on the map to where I'm at. If I say to someone Lafayette, it's as if they're questioning where still, but if I say where Axle Rose is from, it instant.

What does a road course have to do with this? Let alone that you have raced before? I am sorry but launching the stock SYTY is 95% of the time something of a job. I have never seen ANYONE get in and launch right their first time around. :2cents: You must be one of those lucky ones.

Re: Not my truck, but a kill none the less

What I ment by that was I'm more of a road course racer then a 1/4 mile racer.

In road course racing, getting a good launch is detremental to the first turn.

I'm actually more prone to rally racing. I know that the SYTY's can be squarley getting off the line, so I pride myself being able to throw my full size truck around while remaining in control.

I understand I'm not the best, but I can handle myself. I'm not trying to be cocky so I'm sorry if I came across that way.
