Ok I give up.... I need help!!

I just put a new engine in my typhoon (mildly modded but still good for chip I am running). I got the engine to fire up but it ran really rough, sputtering, had no power etc. I was trying to set the timing and it shut off almost like it ran out of fuel. I could not get it to re-fire up!! I went over everything and found a had a few leaky vaccum lines and I had no vacuum getting to the Map sensor and some of the other sensors. That would certainly make it run like sh*t, so I fixed all the vacuum leaks. I checked the firing order etc. Everything seems to be good. Truck still will not re-fire!! I have an adjustable reg, but no matter what I do I can't get it go over 20psi of pressure.... could this be the issue? Do I need to reset the computer? I am new to the world of computer controlled vehicles so I need help. The truck ran awesome before it broke a rod and I rebuilt the motor. I did not change anything other than the motor/turbo/intercooler. The distributor, fuel pump, injectors, sensors, chip all have been left alone. I need help ASAP! Thank you in advance! -Matt

It won't run with out enough FP, some fuel injectors need 30psi before they even start squirting fuel.

It is posible to swap the vacum lines on the egr and fuel presure regulator and get a condition like you describe. Good luck , theres alot of possibilitys

fuel pump is brand new and I can hear it kick on at the turn of the key. Fuel pressure gauge goes to about 20 psi and then back too zero before I turn the key to start it. Fuel reg is also brand new... it did make 45psi but I took is apart to look for a missing o-ring that fell off the fuel line. Since then it has been a problem.....

Gotta have that fuel pressure. Track that down first. Regardless of vac line configuration when you first turn the key on FP runs (for 2 secs on the Sy anyway) and FP should immediately come up to the static set pressure. I'd want to see 38-40 psi.

Yeah - I don't think you could get it to start/run with 20# of fuel pressure.

Ok I agree that it is a fuel pressure issue. i just need to figure out why it wont build pressure. When i turned the key it used to come up to about 45psi. I broke an o-ring on the fuel line that feeds into the reg. I can't find it...might have sucked up into the fuel rail lines?? i took apart the reg to see if it was in there and since I put It back on I can't get more than 20# no matter what the adjustment is.....

:2cents: Since the FPR bolts directly to the rail I assume yur talking about the o-ring between the FPR and the rail. To me it's unlikely it would break and get into the rail. The return fitting doesn't have an o-ring so it seems to me you've got a prob with the reg itself. No offense but maybe you got it back together wrong. You might try disconnecting the return line under the truck by the transfer case (so it's easy to collect the fuel) and running the FP and seeing what the flow looks like. Either that or you've got a big leak somewhere. Or maybe the fuel pump just decided to take a c***. Just thinkin' out loud again. :2cents:

i agree with don, the fpr should hold pressure at start up and sould keep holding pressure after the key is turned off. since you fiddled with it i would replace it if you can't get it to work again.

Re: Ok I give up.... I need help!!

fuel pump is definately still working, no doubt about that. there isn't much to the fuel reg so I can't imagine i put it back together wrong. I am talking about the o-ring that goes on the line that connects to the fuel reg. It had an o-ring on it and when i took the line off again to fix a leak the o-ring was not on the line anymore. May have sucked the o-ring into the line possibly?? The truck will also not hold pressure with the key off. I will check the injector, fuel rail, and fuel line o-rings in an attempt to seal possible leaks. I am begining to hate this truck. I have never had such problems with engine an install and I have done many!

Re: Ok I give up.... I need help!!

flush the lines if you have doubts

could be a bad fuel pump check valve too

I can't find my orig AFPR but I'm certain there's only one o-ring and it's between the FPR and the rail. The return line that screws into the bottom of the FPR is inverted flair and does not use any o-ring, gasket, pipe dope, or anything else. Let us know what you find.

you are right, I have no idea what o'ring he is talking about...the only one that exist on the ARPR is the one that fits over the port that connects to the fuel rail. The fuel feed line does not have an o'ring.

Do you see or smell gas anywhere? Just the smallest leak you will be able to smell as the gas leaks out of it. It will take very little gas for your nose to pick it up. Don't ask me how I know about fuel leaks.

If you don't smell or see the leaking gas, espically it your FP is dropping to zero, the the gas has to be either leaking out somewhere or you didn't have any pressure in the first place. At least that is how I would perceive it. Perhaps this is flawed logic?

Re: Ok I give up.... I need help!!

You guys were right there wasn't an o-ring between the fuel line and reg. I was mis-informed that there was supossed to be one there. Anyways I took apart the fuel reg and corrected the problem I was having with it. I now have it set at 45# at idle with no vacuum... starts up and runs fine! Thanks everyone for their input! -Matt

;) glad you got'r done! I was just lost on the o'ring thing...sort of funny actually. Have fun with the truck.

Both the return and supply lines have orings no doubt about it. Without them you will have leaks. They are available at Napa for about 5 bucks for both.
